Criteria for choosing a storage water heater

The water heater is selected based on your own needs and capabilities. Here's everything you need to consider:

  • condition of electrical wiring;
  • number of consumers;
  • cold water quality;
  • availability of space for mounting the tank.

A suitable boiler is selected according to the technical characteristics specified in the passport of each product.

  • Volume of the tank. There are storage water heaters with a capacity from 30 to 300 liters.
    Tanks larger than 150 liters are installed on the floor. They are usually purchased for country houses. In apartments, boilers are used that are attached to the wall. The volume depends on the number of people: for a small family a tank of 30-50 liters is enough, and for 4 people or more - from 80 liters. IMPORTANT. The wall must be reliable - concrete, reinforced concrete, brick. A plasterboard partition will not withstand the weight of even a small tank.
  • Power. In different models, this parameter can be from 1.5 to 6 kW.
    The more powerful the boiler, the faster it will heat the water. In houses with old electrical wiring, it is dangerous to use powerful heaters. IMPORTANT. It is better to connect the device to a separate line so that in the event of an accident it does not burn out other electrical appliances.
  • Internal coating. The service life of the water heater depends on this material. Plastic-lined tanks are the cheapest, but the most short-lived. In second place in terms of strength are enamel and glass ceramics. But they are destroyed under the influence of solid particles (sand, rust). Manufacturers provide a guarantee of up to 10-12 years for boilers coated with stainless steel. The most expensive and reliable coating is titanium coating.
  • Type of heater. Submersible heating elements become overgrown with scale due to constant contact with water; they have to be cleaned regularly.
    Heating elements placed in a protective capsule will last longer without maintenance. REFERENCE. A magnesium anode is included in any good boiler. By drawing back the salts contained in the water, it protects the heating elements and the inner surface of the tank from scale formation and corrosion.

What volume to choose a water heater

Depending on the purpose for which the electric storage water heater is installed and the appropriate volume is selected. If the boiler is installed in the country house and hot water is used only for washing dishes, then you can choose 15 liters.

It is believed that on average 30 liters are enough for one person, so for a family of three it is recommended to install a water heater with a volume of 80 liters or more.

However, average indicators almost always differ from private indicators and nuances must be taken into account. For example, water consumption when using a shower is lower than in a bathtub. You can also get by with a smaller volume if family members take showers more than once, but so that the water has time to heat up “evenly” throughout the evening.

Not the last factor when choosing a volume will be the availability of space for installing a water heater. A situation may arise that there is a need to install a boiler with a reserve, but there is simply no suitable place.

The solution may be to install two independent water heaters: for the kitchen and bathroom, respectively.

Even in cramped circumstances, they are trying to install flat storage water heaters. Due to their more compact size, they save space and at the same time have a more aesthetic appearance. It should be borne in mind that due to its more complex shape, the likelihood of corrosion of the tank is higher.

Which brand of storage water heater is better?

Judging by customer reviews, not all manufacturers can be trusted unreservedly. But the products of several brands that have proven themselves to be the best are in constant demand in Russia and abroad.

  • Electrolux (Sweden) produces washing machines, dishwashers, and refrigerators. The most popular water heaters from this company are easy to control thanks to built-in electronics. They are a little more expensive than their counterparts. But there are cheap boilers with more complex mechanical controls.
  • Thermex (Russia) produces only water heaters. The products of this company are in demand in many countries around the world.
  • Ariston (Italy) is part of the Indesit brand and produces heating boilers and water heaters. The boiler settings are electronic, but not fancy. The quality of the products is above average, and the prices are lower.
  • Ballu (Russia) manufactures climate control equipment for industrial and domestic needs. Economical storage water heaters with tanks made of stainless steel or enamel coating will serve for a long time and without failure.
  • Zanussi (Italy) is a subsidiary of the Electrolux concern. Produces large household appliances (refrigerators, freezers, stoves, hoods, washing and drying machines, microwave ovens). The boilers of this company have earned high customer ratings.

The selection of the best heater models is based on the ratings of those who bought and use them.

Bulk water heater

A tankless water heater is made of a tank, a faucet and a heating element.

The price of such a water heater depends on the volume. The most inexpensive “Moidodyr” is a tank into which water is poured, a tap and a stainless sink. It can be placed outside, in the kitchen.

A large tank water heater has a volume of up to 100 liters, and a shower head, and water is poured inside with a pump or buckets.

What types of water heaters are there?

water heater for home

According to the principle of operation, all water heating devices are divided into:

  • flow-through;
  • accumulative;
  • and indirect heating boilers.

By type of heating they are divided:

  • electric models;
  • and gas.

Which water heater is right for you depends on the tasks that the device will have to cope with, as well as on the location of its installation. Let's take a brief look at each type of device.

Instantaneous water heaters provide quick heating of water. Such devices make it possible to immediately obtain hot water in unlimited quantities. Inside such a water heater there is a powerful heating element. The water passes inside the device and manages to warm up to 45-55°. Per minute, a good flow-through heater can produce from 3 to 5 liters of hot water.

Cumulative

This type of water heater is especially suitable for people who consume a lot of water per day. The advantage of storage water heaters is that they are able to supply hot water without compromising pressure. However, this type of water heating systems is not cheap at the moment, and corrosion of internal elements quite often occurs, which interfere with the operation of the unit, so you should think carefully when choosing a water heater.

Water heaters for domestic use are divided into gas and electric.

Electric water heaters

They are the safest and easiest on the market at the moment. They are distinguished by excellent design and good ergonomics. They can fit perfectly into almost any interior. The convenience of electric water heaters is also reinforced by the fact that their installation does not require special permission from various services, as for example in gas heaters.

Instantaneous water heaters

Heating elements - a box with a heating element and water pipes. The water heats up when you open the tap. If there is no pressure, the water will not heat up. Strong pressure is not recommended, as the water will not have time to warm up. It is better to use medium pressure.

In turn, instantaneous water heaters have two subcategories: non-pressure and pressure.
