Choosing an electric stove for the kitchen is not always an easy task. The buyer is faced with a huge choice when choosing an electric stove. Types of electric stoves are divided into several categories; in order to choose the right option, you need to understand this issue a little.
The choice of an electric stove must be approached with the utmost seriousness.
How to choose an electric stove
Today it is impossible to find a single detailed classification of electric stoves. However, no matter what kind of electric stove you have, the first step is to prepare a special outlet for this household appliance. All electric stoves are connected to a single unified power source. The wiring in the house must fully comply with electrical appliances, withstanding the load of the stove.
The appearance of the burners may be as follows:
- cast iron pancakes protruding upward;
- glass ceramic heating surface.
There are stoves with two types of burners.
It is quite easy to distinguish them from each other. Protruding cast iron pancakes rise on small pedestals, and the latter have a smooth glass surface.

Electric stove
The main advantage of an electric stove is the combination of versatility with excellent technical and operational characteristics. The household appliance can be installed in any apartment or private house connected to the power supply.
Why is an electric stove good?
- no restrictions on practical use;
- high level of security;
- variety of models presented on today's market;
- simplified by agreeing on kitchen remodeling.
Classification by installation type
All electric stoves can be divided into three large categories according to their design type:
- Portable. Typically small tiles have one or more heating zones. Most often they are used as temporary solutions at dachas, or during repairs.
- Built-in hobs. Integrates well with any kitchen set. They look very impressive and modern.
- Classic stoves are supplied immediately with the oven, have a massive appearance and are heavy.
The size of the electric stove will depend on the number of burners.
The number of cooking zones affects the size of the device. Standard stoves can have from three to eight burners. Classic electric stoves can be full-size or narrow. It should be well understood: the smaller the area of the cooking surface, the fewer heating zones (burners) there will be.

Standard
An important electrical appliance in a home without a gas pipeline. A huge number of different models will allow you to make a choice that suits any homeowner.
Electric stove standard.
Electric current passes through tubular electric heaters. Electric heaters are located under each burner and release thermal energy. In other words, the spirals under the burners heat up under the influence of electric current. Heat is evenly distributed to all nearby objects.
In classic stoves, current passes through a conductor with high resistance, at which time the conductor generates heat.

Glass ceramics
The glass-ceramic work surface is smooth, mirror-like and looks very stylish. In such stoves, the burners are marked with a special outline.
The heating element acts as a transmission link, heats up instantly and cools down just as quickly. The heat heats the cookware as it passes through the glass surface of the stove. Glass ceramics has a unique property and has the best thermal conductivity in a vertical position. Thanks to this property, the dishes heat up better than the glass surface.
Glass ceramic hob.
Advantages of glass-ceramic plates:
- Glass has an attractive design and high strength. Can hold containers up to 70 liters.
- Changing the size and shape of the burners, in some models, makes cooking much easier.
- Uniform heat supply in the oven is ensured by placing several heaters along the inner perimeter.
- The absence of irrational heat loss makes this technique economical.
Main disadvantages:
- It is better to select dishes with a dark, smooth matte bottom without bends or potholes.
- The low sides of glass-ceramic plates will not be able to prevent the “escaping” liquid. Such liquid will have to be removed from the floor.
- Upon impact, a crack will form and the hob will fail.
- Such slabs require special care. It is prohibited to wipe off food residues with metal sponges or other objects, with the exception of a special scraper.
The glass-ceramic stove does not take up much space and can be combined with any design.
When choosing glass ceramics, it is important to consider the following points:
- The stoves can be equipped with three types of burners: halogen, induction or rapid. Induction is rightfully the best.
- Different powers in the burners save energy better. Consequently, only the required amount of energy is expended for each burner diameter.
- Reinforced sealing of ovens prevents heat loss. And some of them can even clean themselves.
- It will be convenient to have useful functions, such as programming specific dishes, a timer, and automatic boiling control.

Halogen
Spiral tubes inserted into the surface of the stove, filled with halogen vapor, heat the burner almost instantly. Halogen vapor emits infrared radiation, which heats the cookware when an electric current passes through it. You can use absolutely any type of cookware with these stoves.
Halogen stove with one burner.
The burners in such stoves emit a soft red light. The cook can easily change the power of each burner individually while cooking.
However, such plates have some features during operation:
- Scratches on the surface can cause the entire device to malfunction.
- The surface is afraid of sugar and other bulk materials.
- The board is not protected from pinpoint damage. Appearing cracks immediately lead to failure of the entire slab.
- Do not wash the halogen surface with a dirty cloth.
- Hard rags and sponges can damage the hob.
- It is strictly forbidden to turn on the stove without dishes.
- Before cooking, make sure the bottom of the pan is absolutely clean.

Induction
Such slabs are gaining increasing popularity in Europe. They will fit beautifully into any interior; their ease of use makes cooking much easier. A wide range of models, from small-sized models for one burner to full-fledged large stoves, opens up space for choice even for the most sophisticated buyer.
Induction hob in the kitchen.
Vortex induction currents are created by a high-frequency magnetic field and heat the cookware. This approach to heating dishes eliminates heat leakage, which makes these stoves as economical as possible.
Such heating reduces energy consumption by quickly heating the dishes without losing additional heat to heat the hob.
The main advantages of such a device include the following features:
- Intelligent features make this device practical and durable.
- Energy savings occur not only due to the heating of specific dishes, but also due to the automatic shutdown of the hob after removing the dishes.
- Such plates have increased safety. It is impossible to get injured or burned because induction currents heat only the bottom of the cookware.
- Dust does not stick to the panel, which makes cleaning the stove easier and does not require special equipment to keep such a device clean.
For an induction panel, you need to purchase a special ceramic pad to prevent the surface from being scratched.
The main disadvantages of an induction cooker include the following factors:
- Only special utensils should be used with such a stove. The burner will not react to porcelain, brass, glass, copper or ceramic.
- Refrigeration equipment nearby will negatively affect the operation of the stove.
- Models with one common frequency generator will lose power when using several burners simultaneously.
- Operating from the mains, the stove creates a high load on the wires. Dangerous in houses with old wiring.
When choosing an induction cooker, you should pay attention to the following points:
- The required number of modes to adjust the power.
- If there are small children in the house, you should choose a model with a control panel lock.
- Be sure to test and choose a method of controlling the stove that is comfortable for you: magnetic, slider or touch.
- Determine the size and location of the burners in advance.
An induction cooker is an excellent option for families with children.

Heating surface material
When choosing an electric stove, you need to pay special attention to the material of the heating surface. It is the type of heater that will determine the energy consumption, cooking speed and types of cooking utensils.
See also Corner countertop for the kitchen: types of joints, varieties, useful tips for care and installation.
Cast iron
Along with spiral heating elements, models with burner pancakes are often equipped with cast iron pancakes. Such installations always rise above the main surface of the slab. These elevations can create some inconveniences: dishes overturning, difficulties during cleaning. Also, such elements are not famous for their durability, because a pinpoint mechanical impact can easily split cast iron, which is not famous for its high strength.
Electric stove with cast iron heating surface.
However, cast iron is unpretentious to the utensils used. It doesn’t matter what material is used for cooking, the result will always be the same.
Cast iron electric stoves belong to a low price category and can be sold significantly lower than other models. But the power consumption of such stoves is the highest. They cannot be called economical.

Induction
Induction heating elements differ from their competitors in a completely different operating principle. In other stoves, the heating element transfers heat to the burner, which heats the dishes. An induction heating element uses a magnetic field to heat the bottom of the cookware directly, bypassing the hob. This approach has brought two main advantages: economical energy consumption, as well as a sufficiently cold hob during cooking.
Today, induction hobs are very popular.
However, only special magnetic cookware will help you cook food on such a stove. In this case, the main distinguishing fact is that the entire bottom should be magnetized. Such plates have the highest price tag among their competitors.
Combination heaters
When analyzing all types of electric stoves in detail, you cannot miss combined hobs. Completely different types of heating can be combined. An electric stove may also have a gas burner. Typically, such slabs are divided into two zones. Each zone has its own heating type.
Combination stove.
Such models become widespread due to their versatility. The most common option is to combine ceramic burners with an induction hob. Induction cookers are characterized by low consumption and safety, plus fast heating. The ceramic hob, although it gets hot, can be used with any cookware. Thanks to this, you don’t have to change all the dishes at once.

By oven type
All ovens, regardless of design features, are divided into two large categories: electric and gas. Modern trends dictate the market trend toward electric ovens. Does this mean gas is becoming a thing of the past?
There are two types of electric stoves based on the type of oven.
First of all, you need to understand that regardless of the source of heating energy, the oven is a metal chamber with ventilation holes. The distance between the chamber and the cabinet walls is filled with a heat insulator.
Any oven transfers heat from an energy source to the object being processed in a non-contact manner. All ovens are distinguished by the type and number of heaters, which can be placed at the top, bottom, sides, and sometimes everywhere at the same time.
With electric oven
An electric oven is heated by electric heating elements, which can be located anywhere around the perimeter of the oven. There may be several tans. This type of oven is easy to operate and maintain, relatively inexpensive and most common among users. As a rule, most combination electric ranges are equipped with an electric oven.
Stove with electric oven.
Combined
A gas oven uses flammable gas. By changing the gas flow you can change the temperature inside the oven. A constant air flow is required for good functioning. Air combines with gas, resulting in a flame.
Some manufacturers have begun to understand the benefits of combining gas and electricity, so they equip their ovens with several heating options. For example, a gas grill is more difficult to operate, but it greatly affects the taste of the prepared dish for the better.
Stove with combination oven.
Such options are more expensive and more difficult to maintain, but provide more room for creativity for the cook.
Electric stoves for the kitchen - how to choose
Finding a suitable electric stove is not an easy task, which is further complicated by the fact that there is a wide range of similar household appliances on the market. Therefore, the owner of an apartment or house has a completely reasonable question that directly affects electric stoves for the kitchen - how to choose the right equipment? Answering this involves considering several criteria - let's get started.
Technical selection criteria
- Type of hob. The pros and cons of today's popular options are described above. Here it is necessary to note the following: with proper use of any of the materials described above - stainless steel, glass ceramics or enamel coating - they will provide a combination of convenience and safety of cooking.
- Dimensions. When considering different types of stoves for the kitchen, the first thing you need to consider is the dimensions of the appliance. It should fit organically into the kitchen set, ensuring convenient use.
- Number and type of burners. One of the key selection parameters. The number of simultaneously prepared dishes and the ease of use of the kitchen electric stove are determined. Each type of burner has its own set of pros and cons, and the final choice is determined only by the preferences of the housewife herself.
- Availability of oven. The configuration of the equipment depends on the preferences of the housewife and the size of the kitchen. In the vast majority of cases, the traditional option is chosen, which includes not only a hob, but also an oven. This choice is explained by the quite obvious desire of the housewife to prepare varied and tasty food.
Financial selection criteria
- Cost of equipment. The financial criterion still remains one of the main ones. It is important to understand that it is best to use it only in combination with other parameters. This approach usually turns out to be the most reasonable in the end, since it eliminates the possibility of quick breakdowns and costly repairs of a stove purchased at the lowest available price.
- Manufacturing company. When deciding to purchase such an expensive household appliance as a kitchen stove, any owner of an apartment or house wants it to work as long as possible. As a result, it is advisable to purchase equipment from proven and reliable manufacturers who guarantee the quality of their own products.
Taking into account each of the listed criteria will allow you to purchase an electric kitchen stove that will be convenient and economical to operate, as well as reliable and durable. The easiest way to avoid mistakes when choosing a suitable model is to contact specialists who can provide professional advice on the features and characteristics of the purchased equipment.
Electric stoves for the kitchen - how to choose
Shape and design
Modern technologies make it possible to produce electric stoves with impeccable appearance. Smooth surfaces, the absence of unnecessary details, beautiful and modern shapes - all this allows you to integrate the stoves into almost any kitchen interior design.
A glass ceramic hob can be painted in any color, and the ability to paint a unique pattern on it gives it a unique style.
The stove should be combined with the overall interior design.
Classic stoves do not stand out with their shapes or design, but with their neat appearance they can decorate any cozy kitchen, and even Hi-Tech interior.
Stationary stoves are not at all creative; their use in the modern world fades into the background.

You should choose an electric stove after the kitchen interior is completely finished. Only in this order can we guarantee complete and beautiful integration of the future electrical appliance into the interior of the room.
When choosing an electric stove, first decide what type it will be: built-in, classic or glass-ceramic?
Particular attention should be paid to the heating element. Induction heating elements are becoming increasingly popular, but will require a complete replacement of the cookware. In this case, the best alternative is stoves with a combined heating element.
Modern versions of electric stoves can withstand up to 70 liters.
It is also better not to ignore the structure and material of the hob. For example, cast iron ranges have elevated cooktops. This arrangement option is not entirely convenient when cooking: the pan may tip over or the cast iron may crack if used carelessly.
When choosing glass or glass ceramics, check the maximum weight that can be placed on the surface. Modern stoves can withstand a volume of up to 70 liters. However, it is better to clarify this issue with the seller.
The warranty period, as well as the cost of post-warranty service, is an important factor when choosing an electric stove.
