Vizant 751 GPS – video recorder with radar detector. The included rubber brackets securely attach it to the standard mirror. The 5-inch screen shows images from two cameras, information about speed and traffic cameras. All notifications are duplicated by voice. You can control the recorder using a sensor or mechanical buttons, which is convenient while driving.

The additional chamber is dirt and water resistant as it is designed for external installation. Recording occurs cyclically without breaks, which allows you to not monitor the amount of remaining memory. Full HD video displays license plates of passing cars and other small details. There are many settings in the device, and they are divided into separate tabs. It will be easy to understand them the first time.

Pros:

  • voice notification;
  • simple controls with clear settings;
  • large screen;
  • external chamber protected from water and dirt;
  • high recording quality.

Minuses:

  • does not connect directly to the computer.

To transfer recordings to a laptop, you need to additionally purchase a card reader - no other connection method is provided here.

A two-channel video recorder built into the rearview mirror, with a radar detector and a GPS module, is attached with rubber bands on top of the standard one. The recording comes from two cameras simultaneously, which gives a complete picture of what is happening around. The front camera shoots in Full HD with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels – small details are clearly visible on the videos. The second camera can be installed outside or inside the cabin. Everything necessary for installing the device is included in the kit.

For shooting with the engine off, the model has a supercapacitor, which has many advantages compared to a standard lithium battery. It is designed for a greater number of charging cycles and has a long service life. This battery has proven itself well at temperatures down to -20°C.

The model detects all cameras and radars used in Russia and warns the driver about the distance to them. Loop video recording is carried out in a special seamless way, which allows you not to miss a single moment on the road. The 5-inch IPS display has a viewing angle of 146° and good color reproduction. This allows you to comfortably view videos directly on the recorder. All settings in the menu are Russified and intuitive.

Pros:

  • clear menu;
  • large IPS screen with good color rendering;
  • battery operating at low temperatures;
  • good recording quality;
  • adequate operation of the radar detector;
  • Russified menu.

Minuses:

  • poor sensor quality;
  • no motion sensor.

The display is not very responsive - you have to press it with force. Drivers note that it is unnerving at first, but you quickly get used to this type of screen.

Artway MD-161 Combo 3 in 1

buyers recommend this product

Artway Combo is attached to the standard mirror with included rubber bands. This fixation is simple and reliable. The large mirror captures dead spots. The long included power cable allows you to hide it under the ceiling trim. After all the settings are completed, the radar detector detects all cameras and indicates the distance to them. Artway technical support works quickly and helps with device settings. Updating camera databases and software is easy.

The manufacturer claims Full HD recording quality, but users write in reviews that the numbers are not blurred only for nearby cars. This is especially noticeable at night. The camera's 140° viewing angle allows you to film oncoming traffic and roadsides. Motion and shock sensors automatically start an emergency recording mode - such video is protected from deletion.

Pros:

  • large mirror;
  • wide viewing angle;
  • shock and motion sensors;
  • prompt technical support;
  • clear operation of the radar detector.

Minuses:

  • uninformative instructions;
  • video quality does not match that stated by the manufacturer;
  • complex settings of the radar detector.

The model does not imply full-fledged work out of the box. For the radar detector and GPS to function, you need to carry out complex manipulations that are poorly explained in the instructions. Before launching the recorder for the first time, it is better to call Artway support or contact specialists.

How to choose and what to pay attention to?

The following characteristics are important for mirror-style DVRs::

  • Camera resolution - the higher it is, the higher the clarity and range of video recording, however, such videos take up a large amount of space, so it is necessary to use the most capacious memory cards;
  • Viewing angle - the higher the angle, the more the camera captures, and this is necessary in controversial situations with cutting and pressing to the side of the road.
  • Frame rate - the most optimal option is 30 fps. This ensures smooth recording without lag or lag. In modern models, the figure can reach 60 frames.
  • Recording mode – cyclic mode records short videos of several minutes. Some models delete old entries automatically. Continuous recording continuously shoots in a single file until the memory runs out. Such models have to be regularly cleared of video footage; in addition, the required moment can be difficult to find in a single recording.
  • Night mode – necessary to improve video quality at night.
  • The volume of your own memory and accepted cards is an important parameter, especially for high-quality recording. The higher the quality of the video, the more space it takes up and the more often the memory will need to be cleared in the absence of automatic erasing of old data.

Test of mirrors with built-in DVRs. Two in one

Interior rear-view mirrors with DVRs did not appear yesterday, but before that these were Chinese “no-name” models with monstrous characteristics and workmanship. Not entirely disgusting products began to appear only a year and a half ago; we can say that we are testing the first normal generation of these devices.

Probably, it would be possible to take things that are even more multifunctional, because there are already mirrors on the market not only with DVRs, but also with radar detectors, and even with navigators. Let's leave this idea until the next test. For now - only mirrors with VR.

Disclaimer: testing took quite a long time, samples were tested on a variety of cars (there were more than a dozen of them). Therefore, the frames contain both summer and winter landscapes.

Mio MiVue R25 (3800 rub.)

The product of the Taiwanese company Mitac Mio, as we remember, showed itself to be very worthy in the previous test. Although the Mio MiVue 388 lost to the DOD LS430W in terms of the number of functions and impressive image quality, it turned out to be completely unattainable in terms of ease of use. It seems that the sophistication of the control interface is becoming Mio’s “calling card” - in this test, the Mio MiVue R25 beat its competitors in terms of ease of use and gave it a friendly pat on the ass.

However, in order.

The quality of Mio's packaging is excellent; in such a box it is pleasant not only to buy, but also to store. The mirror, like a glass element, is carefully covered with foam rubber, and the entire “periphery” is hidden with a separate cardboard flap.

The equipment is rather poor, there are only the inevitable power cable (3.1 m), a disk with software and bilingual instructions the size of a foreign passport. This is the optimal form factor, such instructions are convenient to store, and you won’t break your eyes reading the smallest letters. And here not only is the font readable, but also the illustrations are two-color.

The MiVue R25 mirror is very light, but not very compact.

The width of the reflective element (maximum) is 312 mm, and the height is 73 mm. In small cars, such a mirror will obviously interfere with the use of sun visors, at least on the driver's side.

The MiVue R25 is attached to a standard mirror using two clamps that extend vertically.

The tail of the power wire and the plug hanging on it “grows” from the recess in the rear part.

At the top end there is a slot for an SD card. It's commendable that Mio decided to use full-size memory cards rather than microSD, there is plenty of space here, and regular cards are harder to lose. Yes they are cheaper too.

On the right edge of the back side there is a lens, traditionally a glass multi-lens for Mio.

Its size is modest: most DVRs from this company use larger format optics. It’s interesting that, in imitation of conventional video recorders, the lens has a screw-on cap that doesn’t cover anything at all, it’s just a rim with a thread.

Apparently, this is a trace of unification with more advanced VRs, in which a polarizing filter is screwed into this place.

The lens is hinged. And even though the range of movement is small, the fixation in a given position is quite reliable. The hinge itself has a rubber cover that protects it from dust and moisture.

The entire control interface consists of five touch buttons on the tide at the bottom of the mirror.

The buttons have exemplary clear symbols, they are spaced at a decent distance from each other, so there should be no problems with control.

But there is no built-in speaker here, don’t be fooled by the characteristic slots on the back of the case. There is only a microphone, but it is not located where you expect it: the grille near the lens is also “idle”.

And the microphone hole is located almost in the center of the rear panel.

DOD RX7W (5010 rub.)

DOD video recorders have always been distinguished by a rich set of functions and excellent technical characteristics. DOD RX7W was created in corporate traditions, which to some extent played a cruel joke on it.

Made by DOD RX7W in Taiwan. Perhaps even better packaged than the Mio; in any case, there is an additional polyethylene foam retaining insert that protects against shock during careless transportation. If this is of little relevance for a regular DVR, then for a mirror it is very relevant.

The box with the DOD contains instructions and three cables. Why three? Because to the two inevitable ones (car charger and USB-miniUSB adapter) HDMI was added. Of course, there is a corresponding output on the DVR. Only the expediency of it here is not even questionable, but absent: well, who, tell me, would take a mirror home to watch the image from TV? Moreover, you will need to organize separate 12 volts for this (or power it via miniUSB). The DOD's battery is weak... But at least it has a battery - Mio saved money on it.

There is also a card giving the right to free legal advice in the event of an accident on the road. This is a joint program of the Russian distributor DOD and the LKS company. Unfortunately, the conditions under which you can use the consultation are not specified in the instructions, and the text on the card itself is almost impossible to make out - it is so small. And the LKS website says nothing about the conditions. I had to call. At half past five in the morning (the consultation, I note, was stated to be 24/7), the call on the specified phone number was simply dropped, and when I called again, the phone was unreachable. So we consulted...

The instructions would be great if it weren't all the same small print. In pursuit of compactness, the creators crossed the line of reason and made the instructions difficult to read. Nothing bad would have happened if they had doubled the font and doubled the number of pages. Or you can make the instructions not a “sheet”, but a book, then with the same amount of paper 100% of the area will be added. And so for a well-written instruction - a solid and justified “fail”. Vision, you know, is more valuable.

The DOD RX7W mirror is longer and slightly lower than the Mio, its dimensions are 306x80 mm. So it is even less universal in relation to cars. DOD is also heavier - due to the built-in battery.

The DOD RX7W is attached to the standard mirror using two textile Velcro strips.

The hardware interface is concentrated at the top end and consists of miniUSB, miniHDMI sockets and an analog AV output for a 3.5 mm minijack. There is also a slot for a microSD memory card and a well-protected reset button.

Unfortunately, miniUSB is turned in the opposite direction in relation to the plug soldered on the power cable. This means that the wire near the connector will be oriented towards the driver and you will have to make a bend or loop.

After all, a three-meter cable will almost definitely be laid along the right pillar.

In general, this “three-meter height” looks strange against the background of the lack of proprietary fasteners. If the owner decides to install the cable permanently, then he does not care about the length; extending or cutting two wires is not a problem. And if his mirror is removable, then the three-meter cable will dangle in a bunch in the cabin and get in the way of everyone.

The control interface is six small buttons at the bottom.

There is also a tiny hole for a microphone.

Explanatory symbols are located on a black panel on the area of the mirror itself.

The lens is naturally shifted to the left edge (when viewed from the front of the device). The range of its movements is minimal, and fixation in the selected position is even worse; the lens tends to return to “zero”. Against this background, the inscription on the box looks strange, to put it mildly: “Lens rotation in all directions, all-round recording.”

The optics themselves are made in Japan, with an excellent aperture ratio of 1.8, anti-reflective and anti-reflective coatings.

The speaker grille is on the opposite end of the housing.

Neoline DWN-25 (5650 RUR)

Neoline DWN-25 is made in China and it noticeably stands out from the proposed semantic range. This is a DVR with an additional video camera, backlight and lower resolution. If the first two devices record video with FullHD resolution, then Neoline only records HD (1280x720). Formally, this is not even a DVR, but a “parking system with a DVR.”

The packaging of Neoline is of high quality, there is nothing to complain about. The box is perhaps the best in the test - made of thick, long-lasting cardboard, with a “magnetic” lid. It's more convenient than the Mio and DOD multipacks.

The package includes the mirror itself, a USB cord, a long power cable and a second video camera.

The instructions are compiled a little better than the “predovskaya” one, but the “sore” is the same - poor readability due to the small font. My God, is it really a pity for the extra pieces of paper? This can only be read in good daylight, with a lot of effort. Why are you making us spoil our eyesight?

The body of the DWN-25 is almost exactly the same as that of the DOD, and they are also similar in weight.

The layout is similar, right down to the location of the controls.

But there are only five buttons, and there are more.

At the top end there is a miniUSB socket, a slot for a microSD card and a video input for an external camera. There is also a mysterious GPS connector, designated in the instructions as an input for an external satellite dish. But the instructions don’t explain why there’s a satellite dish here.

Apparently, this is also the result of unification. It is likely that the Chinese manufacturer has a similar model with a built-in navigator (this is indirectly indicated by the significant size of the display, which is excessive for the built-in recorder)... And the input for the satellite dish is most likely a mistake; it is intended for a GPS receiver.

The fastening is original - with two rubber bands, for which there are corresponding holders on the case.

Bearing in mind that rubber bands can break, the creators of Neoline doubled their supply.

The Neoline lens rotates within a significant range, and when compared with the DOD, it is generally infinity. Fixation in extreme positions is excellent.

The external camera should work as a video parking sensor.

According to this task, its fastening was developed - on double-sided tape.

However, from the outside such a camera will look alien, not to say criminally seductive. Therefore, the best option for installing it is inside the cabin, on the rear window, in the wiper cleaning area. Fortunately, the rotating bracket allows you to point the camera at any angle. There are also four tiny LED backlights in the camera body (white), but they are obviously of no use.

The power cord should be sufficient for most vehicles. And for those who don’t have enough, it’s easy to increase it, because on the “power” side there is no connector here, you won’t have to cut anything off.

The resolution of the external camera is 720x480, which allows it to be used not only as a parking sensor, but also as a regular rear recorder. Neoline DWN-25 software allows parallel two-channel recording. More precisely: when reversing, the signal from the external camera is displayed on the display in full screen mode, and during normal movement it is partially or not displayed at all. This is reasonable - you can look back through an ordinary mirror.

Since only the Neoline DWN-25 has a second camera, we will not test it, limiting ourselves to a description. But the Neoline gets an extra point for the package.

Fastening quality and ease of installation

It is not easy to attach the Mio MiVue R25 to a standard mirror. The design of the holder consists of two spring-loaded “legs” extending from the body.

And two “passive ones, located below. Retractable “legs” with return springs give the impression of being poorly lubricated; you need to try hard when removing them from the grooves - the resistance to movement is very high. And the springs, meanwhile, are quite tight. Therefore, it is difficult to hold both “legs” in the upper position at once.

But what’s even worse is that in many cases the reach of the “legs” is not enough. For example, in a Ford Focus they cling to the very edge of the interior mirror and at the very first bump the device flies to the floor. But in the Lada Granta MiVue R25 is firmly entrenched:

However, the distance between it and the driver's sun visor turned out to be too small. Therefore, you can lower or raise the visor only by moving the mirror to the side and then reconfiguring it.

The power connection is very simple; the cylindrical connector does not require any special orientation.

The DOD RX7W is a little easier to attach - there are Velcro.

Their main problem is their excessive length, the “tails” simply have nowhere to hide, and for some reason they don’t stick between two mirrors.

Therefore, there is nothing left to do but... cut off the excess.

Now the “tails” of the Velcro do not interfere with the view, but the mount has lost its versatility - it can no longer be used on a thicker DOD RX7W mirror.

At least without extending the Velcro.

The cable, as already mentioned, is oriented to the left side, and routing along the right post will result in a loop.

Neoline DWN-25 is the most convenient to install. The elastic bands can be pulled with one finger, and the latches have a good configuration.

However, the wide protruding flange located around the lens interferes - Neoline DWN-25 has to be shifted to the left from the center of the standard mirror. Which in small cars will create an additional obstacle to using the sun visor.

However, in Tuareg everything worked out perfectly:

But in the mentioned Focus, the mirror turned out to be too thick, and the fastening elastic bands simply could not stretch to the required length.

Moral: of all three devices, Neoline is the most demanding in terms of installation location; you should not buy it without full-scale fitting.

The power cable is oriented towards the rear so that the wire can be routed through either the left or right post.

Connecting a second camera will not be a problem.

Control

The touch buttons of the Mio MiVue R25 are impeccable: even in the deepest twilight their symbolism is clearly visible, you can’t go wrong. In addition, they are large enough and do not require “aiming”. It is also convenient that the buttons are located on the “low tide” from the mirror, this does not force the glass surface to get dirty. There is no response to pressing, that would be too good, tea, not an iPhone.

The 6.1 cm (2.4 inch) screen doesn't impress with the default brightness or contrast settings. More precisely, during the day you can barely see anything in it.

It's better at night. But still, the creators of Mio clearly overdid it in their desire to be unobtrusive. Unfortunately, brightness and contrast cannot be increased; such adjustments are simply not provided.

Mio's settings are completely laconic. The minimum parameters can be changed. Here is their complete list.

As you can see, not a lot. But even from this modest list it would be possible to exclude exposure adjustment; it is unlikely that it will be actively used.

You know, it’s this kind of lapidaryness that seems to me synonymous with thoughtfulness. Mio's on-screen interface doesn't force you to strain your brain and frantically check the instructions. This is exactly the kind of control development that a car device requires. So, based on all the criteria, Mio is worthy of the most sincere praise. Oh, if it weren’t for the insufficient contrast of the display during the day...

The DOD RX7W handles differently. Within the mirror element, it has only small button symbols, and the buttons themselves are located on the bottom end. The symbols are difficult to read and are not visible at all at night. But the situation is even worse with the buttons - small, almost resistant to pressing. And at the same time they hardly protrude above the surface of the body.

Even just taking the DOD out of the box, it’s impossible not to accidentally press the power button. And during installation, the device will turn on many, many times, you will get tired of turning it off. But it is quite difficult to find the desired button with your finger and visually correlate it with a symbolic picture. And the buttons are miniature, and the distance between them is prohibitively small. In addition, the finger, sliding along the lower end, almost does not feel the relief; you have to press literally at random. There is no rational explanation for such a design solution, because there is plenty of space on the bottom end; the buttons could be made much larger and more convenient.

The DOD RX7W screen is larger than that of the Mio - 7.4 cm diagonally.

There are almost no complaints about its brightness and contrast, except for the not entirely clear symbols of individual modes.

The control logic of the DOD RX7W is not as well thought out as that of the Mio. More precisely, the functionality of this device is incomparably higher. You can get an impression of it by looking at the screenshots.

The RX7W has a WDR (Wide dynamic range) function, similar to the HDR that many people use to process photos in Photoshop. Simply put, this is an automatic expansion of the dynamic range by “overlaying” several frames taken with different exposures. WDR is especially useful at night, when the level of illumination “jumps” over a very wide range from the streetlights and headlights of oncoming cars. But during the day, in clear light, WDR is less useful, as it slightly distorts color reproduction.

In addition, the DOD RX7W allows you to imprint the date and time of shooting, as well as the vehicle number, into the image. This information will have to be entered manually. The number will serve as an additional means of identification in the event, for example, of an accident involving several cars. But for those who like to post videos on the Internet, it’s better not to “share” your number.

We will allow ourselves to classify some other functions as conditionally harmful. This is setting the exposure, lighting frequency and white balance (in such devices all this should be adjusted automatically), choosing a language is also not needed - the recorder is made specifically for the Russian market, packaged in a localized box and supplied exclusively with Russian-language instructions. It is unlikely that with such a set of features, the DOD RX7W will be sold in English-speaking countries... The motion detector is used well if every hundredth owner. As an element of a car's security system, it is useless, unless it can be used to record an interesting event in the absence of the driver. I think the ability to password-protect access to video files is also superfluous.

Please understand correctly: all these functions are interesting and are probably in demand by someone. But there are laws of ergonomics, according to which any function that you can do without is redundant. Interesting, useful - perhaps. But without it, the device will not become any worse. And it will only add operational inconvenience. Stephen Hawking, the great physicist, once said: one formula in a book means minus a million potential readers. This does not mean that the primitive should be considered ideal, no. This means that we need to take a sensible approach to assessing user preferences. And they most often come down to the maxim “set it and forget it.” Therefore, we are introducing expert assessments both for obviously “useful” functionality and for “conditionally harmful” functionality, that is, one that is likely to be of little use, but will complicate management for champions of simplicity.

The Neoline DWN-25 screen is the largest in the test, 10.8 cm diagonally (4.3 inches). On such a display it would be a sin to arrange the symbols in a way that is unreadable.

The functionality and quality of the on-screen interface can be judged from the screenshots.

Among the interesting things: the “picture in picture” function (this is when the image is displayed simultaneously from both cameras) and the ability to use the DVR in camera mode. But I must admit, I don’t understand why Neoline needs the ability to apply different effects to an image (sepia, negative, b/w, etc.). The multilingual nature of a device for the Russian market looks rather strange; it even has Japanese, Portuguese and Korean. How is time correction using GPS in the absence of GPS itself?

So Neoline DWN-25 doesn’t get the best score for “redundancy”.

Neoline is easier to control than Dodom, but more difficult than Mio. The buttons here are less prone to accidental pressing and are larger. True, the distance between them is very minimal, and blindly separating one from the other is quite a task. Small symbolism does not add excitement either. However, it has a significant advantage over “Dodovskaya” - it is understandable. But Mio Neoline still falls short of the pleasant simplicity.

Image quality

Now we get to the main thing - the quality of the “picture”. In DVRs it depends not only on the optics, matrix and video processor, but also to a large extent on the selected presets. More precisely, on the quality of operation of the basic mode. A DVR is not a video camera in which the user constantly adapts to the shooting conditions. Here the operation follows the “set it and forget it” principle. And if the DVR provides a good “picture” only with manual adjustment of the balance or other (but inevitable) adjustments, then the price of such a device is low. Therefore, we test devices in “auto” modes, both in terms of color balance and light sensitivity. Without exposure compensation and with automatic backlight switching on (if available).

Mio MiVue R25 pleases with good detail and excellent color balance.

Don't pay attention to the "blur" on the right side of the frame - that glass in the car was dirty.

But the modest size of the optical system manifests itself as distortions on large objects: the distortion goes beyond the acceptable.

We can only hope that this will not interfere with identifying the subject of photography in the event of an accident.

Here is a screenshot from a static shot at dusk.

Here's the dynamics.

As you can see, the distortion is quite local and does not interfere with the overall perception. Although, of course, it’s unpleasant.

Now let's see how Mio shoots at night. This screenshot was taken from a static video recording under street lighting.

But this one is static with the car’s headlights on.

The color balance, of course, has “gone”, but it has gone to more or less the right area, not to blue. The dynamic range is also quite good for such a small sensor. As for the noise... A bit much, but not critical.

Now let's see the same thing in dynamics.

Mio's emergency file is created both automatically and manually. Unfortunately, this file can be deleted from the card without formatting. That is, just by accident. Although it is recorded in a separate folder.

Another strange thing: the G-sensor indicator is constantly present on the screen, even when recording emergency files is completely turned off. Why this was done, I don’t understand.

The DOD RX7W produces amazingly rich and bright images in daylight.

Distortion at the edges of the frame is minimal, much less than with Mio. The clarity is great - it's WDR at work. It also gives the image a certain unnaturalness, not to say lifelessness. But from the point of view of elaboration of details, the DOD RX7W “makes” the Mio MiVue R25. And with a reserve.

Here's a dynamic shot.

Night shooting revealed a shift in color balance into the blue region, which is less comfortable than the obvious yellowness of the Mio. And the sensitivity let us down. This is what DOD shoots under the same conditions.

We turn on the headlights.

The clarity is higher than the Mio, but the dynamic range will be narrower.

Operating a DOD in the dark makes it easier to shoot yourself right away. Understanding which button to press is completely unrealistic. The logic is also not obvious; you constantly get confused between the “back” and “select” commands. Mio is infinitely more convenient in this regard. And another problem: DOD automatically turns on the display during a sharp shake, which interferes with rearward visibility at night. This happens even when the shock sensor is disabled!

Neoline DWN-25, as we remember, has a lower resolution of the photosensitive matrix, so it is not entirely correct to compare it head-on with two other devices. But we will compare. Because quality is not determined only by pixels.

This is what the Neoline image looks like in daylight.

It’s easy to notice that there are “wide-angle” distortions here too, but they are minimally manifested. But with the clarity of the “picture” things could have been better. The detailing is the worst, but the color balance is excellent.

Here's a video.

As for sensitivity in the dark, it can be judged from the following screenshot.

The dynamic range turned out to be extremely narrow; the light from headlights and oncoming cars does not help to make out the license plate number of the car in front. This cannot be done even by greatly brightening the picture in a photo editor!

We turn on the headlights.

Of course, it got better, but the license plate still remained on the verge of legibility. There is no question of seeing something outside the beam of light.

Let's watch the video.

Let us remind you that Neoline DWN-25 has a built-in backlight (six white LEDs around the lens). During the day they are almost invisible. But at night...

This is what it looks like.

Let's try to illuminate an object in the near field with these bulbs, at a distance of several centimeters.

Now we move the object exactly one meter away.

The gloss of the packaging box reflects only a faint glow; it is impossible to disassemble anything.

And here’s what the “picture” looks like with the backlight on in natural conditions for the DVR.

Obviously, the built-in LEDs are of no use and there is no point in turning them on.

Controlling Neoline is more difficult than Mio, but easier than DOD. The logic for issuing commands here is also not the most thoughtful, but at least the buttons are not as small as those of the DOD. The main problem is the excessively large display, which distracts attention not only at dusk, but also on a clear day. Of course, it’s better to turn it off right away.

Let's sum it up

Based on all the parameters, Mio MiVue R25 turned out to be the best. It outperforms its competitors in both image quality and ease of use. The only thing that really let him down was the non-universality of the mount. But the absence of a built-in battery is almost imperceptible - to finalize the recording, a small supercapacitor is enough. And for recording when the engine is turned off, you can supply constant power, because anyway, such DVRs require a stationary installation.

Second place goes to DOD RX7W. It has the highest quality “picture” in daylight and the richest set of capabilities. A device for connoisseurs and geeks.

Neoline DWN-25 is a thing in itself. The most convenient mount, the presence of a second camera. But the quality of the “picture” does not allow it to compete with the above-mentioned devices.

buyers recommend this product

The DVR-mirror from the Chinese manufacturer is securely attached to the standard mirror using the included rubber bands. MiJia Smart Rearview is controlled by 5 sensors under the mirror. The central button protrudes slightly so that you can feel it without taking your eyes off the road. All symbols are intuitive without instructions. The Mi Home application, standard for all Xiaomi gadgets, is also installed on the smartphone. Through it you can control the gadget remotely.

A 5-inch screen with an IPS matrix and a resolution of 854×480 is enough to view the footage. Recording is carried out in Full HD 1920×1080 at 30 fps and is distinguished by high detail both during the day and in the evening. The sensitive microphone picks up even soft sounds from outside the car.

The kit includes a DVR unit, 2 rubber bands for mounting on a standard mirror, a USB - micro-USB cable 3.5 m long, a power adapter from a cigarette lighter with one USB output. A fully charged battery lasts for an hour of battery life.

Pros:

  • long cable;
  • sensitive microphone;
  • work via application and Wi-Fi;
  • large screen;
  • good recording quality;
  • Conveniently attaches to a standard mirror.

Minuses:

  • non-Russian instructions and menu;
  • small viewing angle.

The image is poorly visible from the side; the menu in Chinese also complicates the process of setting up the gadget on the go. But if you stop for a moment, you can quickly figure out MiJia Smart, despite the lack of Russification.

TrendVision MR-710GP is a mirror video recorder with many additional functions. The model uses glass optics with a high-quality matrix. A polarizing filter removes all glare from the windshield and improves picture quality. The wide mirror covers the blind spot at the right rear door. The DVR is almost invisible. The only thing that gives it away is the glare on the lens with a directed beam of light. The device is attached to the standard mirror with four wide rubber bands.

The display is large (4.3″), but grainy. The buttons and memory card slot are conveniently located. The menu contains only basic settings - it is clear and not overloaded. There are several recording modes - for day and night shooting. Shooting at fps 60 frames per second at a resolution of 1920x1080 allows you to avoid a blurry picture - the license plates of the cars in the frame are clearly visible even in moving traffic. The ringing sound is not drowned out by engine noise, voices are clearly distinguishable.

Standard features are complemented by a shock sensor and motion detector. Notifications about traffic cameras are triggered even when the screen is turned off: it automatically lights up, a warning about the speed limit and the distance to the camera is displayed. There are forward collision warnings and lane change warnings. The manufacturer promises motorists expanded software support and promises to soon supplement the firmware with notifications about hidden cameras and ambushes of traffic police inspectors.

The battery charge only lasts for 10 minutes of autonomous shooting, so you shouldn’t rely on the recorder to work when the engine is off. The GPS module is removed and attached to the included double tape. It runs on a fast chip and is self-powered for a quick start in 10-15 seconds.

Pros:

  • intuitive menu;
  • several high quality recording modes;
  • motion and shock sensors;
  • possibility of installing a rear view camera;
  • GPS module with quick start;
  • Supports memory cards of 2 formats.

Minuses:

  • weak battery;
  • grainy display;
  • price from 12 thousand.

An additional input for the rear view camera, the presence of slots for memory cards of different formats (SD and microSD), as well as the ability to copy content from one card to another allow you to comfortably use the device under various circumstances. If the TrendVision image begins to shake, you should tighten or, conversely, slightly loosen the fastening elastic bands.

  • cyclic recording;
  • Motion Sensor;
  • glass lenses;
  • low price (up to 1500 rubles).

Minuses:

  • there are incomplete deliveries;

How to choose a mirror DVR?

When choosing a rearview mirror DVR, pay attention to the following criteria: manufacturer, cost, mounting methods, viewing angle and video recording quality.

Additional options are no less interesting, such as the presence of a 3G / 4G modem, Wi-Fi, built-in radar detector, G-sensor and others.

When choosing, pay attention to the screen diagonal, processor and matrix, and the presence of a built-in battery. Below we will consider in detail which points need to be given special attention.

Popular brands on the market

Today there are many mirror DVRs from different manufacturers on sale.

If we consider the rating of popular brands, the TOP 10 according to reviews looks like this:

  1. Xiaomi.
  2. Artway.
  3. Roadgid.
  4. MiO.
  5. NeoLine.
  6. SilverStore.
  7. Fujida.
  8. Inspector.
  9. TrendVision.
  10. Dunobil.

Other manufacturers can be added to the list, but they are in less demand. We are talking about products from Digma, Lexand, SilverStone, Slimtec and others. Interestingly, the main facilities of almost all operating factories are based in China.

Matrix

The matrix is one of the main elements of video recording devices, because the output image depends on its functionality and processing technology. It is important to pay the main attention to the brand/brand of the matrix, which is indicated in the presence of a high-quality sensor.

The most popular matrix option is Sony's Exmor with back illumination. The presence of this option improves sensitivity to light, increases detail and allows you to work well even in low light conditions.

CPU

The task of the processor in a mirror video recorder is to process large amounts of information.

Many equipment parameters depend on it, namely:

  • video clarity;
  • speed of work;
  • hardware functionality, etc.

The most advanced processors include Ambrella, Novatek, HiSilicon and others.

Read on the topic - The processor in the DVR, the main functions, the impact on the quality of shooting.

Standard for cars

Some recorders are designed for specific car models, which must be taken into account when choosing. To avoid any confusion, it is advisable to clarify the compatibility of the selected model with your vehicle.

Today you can buy a mirror video recorder for BMW, Audi, Chevrolet, Land Rover, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Lexus and others.

Availability of driving assistants

Modern video recorders-mirrors can be equipped with various driving assistants.

Let's briefly look at the features of each:

  1. Radar detector. Designed to notify of the presence of a police radar, approaching a traffic police post/patrol. Allows you to reduce speed in time and avoid fines.
  2. Signature recognition. The function is used to improve the accuracy of radar detection. The essence is to enter into memory the main models of radar systems. After receiving the appropriate signal, the device compares the data with the information in memory. Having this option increases accuracy and allows you to better determine the type of radar. The disadvantages of signature recognition are increased cost and slower response.
  3. GPS navigator. The DVR has a GPS module with built-in maps installed on the rearview mirror. This allows you to navigate the area without purchasing a separate navigator. The downsides are higher prices and limited navigation functionality.
  4. GPS informant. An option designed to inform the driver about the location. The most popular options: approaching cameras and posts, speed control, approaching emergency areas, etc.
  5. GPS tracker. Allows the device to work as a beacon that transmits data about the position of the vehicle to a specific address. This could be a taxi service, a cargo transportation service, etc. Having a GPS tracker and a mirror built into the DVR allows you to save on purchasing a separate device. A 3G / 4G network is required for data transfer, so to use the tracker you will have to buy a SIM card and regularly pay for mobile services.
  6. GPS module. Thanks to this device, you can determine the current coordinates and other data: direction of movement, speed and others. The method of using data can be different: informant, navigator, tracker and others.
  7. Glonass. This is a Russian analogue of the GPS system, which has a similar principle of operation. The system is less popular due to lower accuracy, so it is most often used in conjunction with GPS, providing better performance.
  8. Display speed on screen. The presence of such an option in the DVR mirror allows you to overlay the speed of the vehicle on the captured video, which can be useful when investigating various incidents on the road.
  9. G-sensor. Many mirror DVRs are equipped with a built-in sensor that monitors the direction and activity of accelerations acting on the device. Its functions are recording changes in speed, car shaking and impacts. In the event of an accident or a strong impact, the DVR with a G-sensor saves the video in a special memory that is protected from overwriting (deletion). This ensures that the necessary data is saved.
  10. Parking mode. The purpose of the option is to detect force majeure situations when the car is immobilized. As a rule, the G-sensor acts as an executive element, detecting a collision, after which the motion sensor operates. The clip from the buffer is “glued” to the beginning of the video and allows you to record the moment of the collision and a few seconds before this event.
  11. AV output. Composite output, which is used to output audio and video signals to an external display, consisting of a white (audio) and yellow (video) connector. The interface is usually used on televisions.
  12. Anti dream. A function that allows you to “wake up” the person behind the wheel from time to time using a special signal. But it’s worth considering that this option is a last resort, and the best way to rest is sleep.
  13. LDWS. Recorders with LDWS monitor the markings on the road and issue a sound signal when the car deviates from the center lane. Enabling the function allows you to avoid emergency situations, but it only works if the markings are good.
  14. F.C.W.S. A DVR mirror with this option can determine the distance to the car ahead. When driving at low speeds, FCWS turns off to avoid unnecessary activations when driving in traffic jams.
  15. LLWS. The purpose of the system is to remind the driver to turn on the headlights. An audio or other type of signal is used for notification. The situation overboard is monitored using special sensors.

Video recording

This function means the DVR’s ability to shoot in certain modes. The parameters do not take into account the maximum resolution, but the possibility of shooting with one or another parameter.

Popular formats:

  1. HD - 720 rub. The simplest standard providing relatively good quality.
  2. Full HD - 1080 p. It is considered a worthy option, providing highly detailed images.
  3. High-speed Full HD - 1080 p. It has a frame rate of 60 per second. Thanks to this feature, you can achieve excellent detail even when moving quickly without the risk of jerking or blurring.
  4. Super HD - 2304x1296 resolution with higher detail than the formats discussed above. At the same time, the frame rate is maintained at 25 or 30 fps.
  5. Quard HD - 2K resolution: 2560x1440. Shooting is carried out at a frequency of 25 or 30 frames per second.
  6. Ultra HD - 4K, 3840x2160. The frame rate is 24 fps, which is enough to get a clear picture. Today this is the most modern format for mirror video recorders, indicating their quality.

Shooting capability

When choosing a rearview mirror DVR with one, two cameras or without, pay attention to the shooting capabilities.

The following options are available to customers to choose from:

  1. PTZ camera. You can change the position to shoot video when communicating with the inspector. Depending on the model, the camera can be mounted separately in a rotating device or built into the overall structure. When installing the device in the housing, special fasteners are used that cannot be loosened or tightened when turning.
  2. A separate camera aimed at the interior. Such a DVR records what is happening ahead and in the cabin at the same time. Helps in resolving controversial situations when you need to identify the person behind the wheel, understand the reaction of the driver, passengers, etc.
  3. With remote block. Such models provide a separate unit, manufactured separately from the main video camera. It can come with or without a screen, and can be fixed in the glove compartment or other place.
  4. With remote camera. The mirror DVR is equipped with a separate camera, which is placed on the rear window and displays the “image” on the display online. If desired, you can connect several additional devices.
  5. Night photography. Allows the camera built into the DVR to see in the dark. The option is implemented in several ways: using LED backlight or IR technology. The presence of such an option helps to recognize an intruder when the car is parked, because in other cases the lighting is provided by the car's headlights.
  6. Polarizing filter. Reduces the brightness of glare that appears from bright light on glass, water or other surfaces.
  7. HDR - improves picture quality when there is excessive lighting in the frame. In other words, the system brightens dark areas and darkens light areas. The HDR option is only effective when the position is fixed. In motion, video quality may, on the contrary, deteriorate.
  8. WDR. The function is useful when moving opposite the sun, when the picture in the frame is illuminated in different areas. The technology has much in common with HDR, but is more complex to implement.
  9. Dewarp. The option is used to correct the “image” obtained from a wide-angle camera. Eliminates the fish-eye effect, improves the geometry in the frame, and improves the overall quality of the picture.

What is good about a mirror DVR?

The video recorder in the form of a rear-view mirror does not obscure the driver’s view at all. Besides, no one will see him from the outside. Such a device can be left in a car at night without much fear - thieves are unlikely to steal it, simply because they cannot understand that it is there!

It is also worth buying a mirror video recorder because of the very good location of the display. It is located directly “in the mirror”, which allows it to have a fairly large size. This means that the driver will be able to see everything perfectly.

The mirror with a built-in video recorder continues to perform its original functions - that is, you can use it as a regular rearview mirror.

By the way, some models of such mirror DVRs are equipped with an additional camera that will allow you to film the situation behind your car.

Which is better - a regular DVR or a mirror DVR?

The mirror DVR is primarily invisible from the outside, which reduces the risk of the car being hacked to take possession of the device..

Also, some mirror models have additional security functions.

Unlike stationary options, they do not distract attention with their wires and third-party sensors, do not block the windshield, and at the same time improve visibility, thereby increasing driving safety.

However, such models need to be selected individually, unlike conventional video recording devices..

The mirror mount may not support the weight of the device. Also, mirrors are much more expensive than stationary options.
