Common error manifestation
The car breaks down when you least expect it. The user, out of habit, places the laundry in the drum and starts the wash cycle. However, contrary to normal operation:
- the washing does not start, instead, the lights on the control panel blink;
- the process starts, but after a certain time the machine freezes, stops functioning, and the LEDs on the panel light up or blink.
The washing cycle can be interrupted at any stage: soaking, rinsing, spinning, draining. A lit indication coupled with the washing machine stopping operation indicates a malfunction of the equipment. To find a solution to the problem, you need to understand what kind of failure the device is reporting. Deciphering blinking indicators is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. In this article we will try to describe all possible fault codes and the corresponding indication. To decrypt errors, you should:
- find out the type of your Indesit washing machine by the first letters in the model name;
- understand which combination of light bulbs is lit;
- Based on the description presented in the article, identify the alphanumeric designation of the error code indicated by the self-diagnosis system of the machine.
You can often find out the cause of the breakdown and repair the washing machine yourself. However, if you find it difficult to decipher the code by the blinking lights, you can invite a qualified technician to help identify the problem and fix it.
Manifestation of codes in models: IWSB, IWUB, IWDC, IWSC
In the described models of Indesit washing machines, the user is informed about a breakdown by the UBL light bulb and LEDs, which normally show the stages of washing (rinsing, spinning, draining). Also, the lights may blink, usually responsible for additional options of the machine. We will provide a brief description of which indicators will light up for specific error codes:
- F02 (F2) – only indicator 2 is lit;
- F03 (F3) – indicator 1 and 2 are lit;
- F04 (F4) – only indicator 3 is active;
- F05 (F5) – indicators 1 and 3 are activated;
- F06 (F6) – lamps 2 and 3;
- F07 (F7) – indication number 1, 2 and 3;
- F08 (F8) – only the fourth indicator lights up;
- F09 (F9) – 1st and 4th indicator;
- F10 – the second and fourth LEDs are on;
- F11 – lights 1, 2 and 4;
- F12 – 3 and 4;
- F13 – lights 1, 3 and 4 are activated;
- F14 – second, third and fourth buttons;
- F15 – lamps 1, 2, 3 and 4 flash;
- F16 – indicator 5 lights up;
- F17 – first and fifth;
- F18 – activation of lamps 2 and 5.
It is by the simultaneous blinking of certain indicators that one can judge whether the washing machine is broken. Carefully observe the control panel and after a few seconds, you will understand what is wrong with the automatic machine.
We find and fix the problem
To check and make sure that the electronic board is faulty, you need to remove it from the machine, which will have to be disassembled. Let's consider this process using the example of a top-loading washing machine from Indesit.
The first thing we don’t forget to do is turn off the power to the washing machine . We begin disassembling the machine body by unscrewing the control panel, which is attached to two bolts on the back of the case. Having removed the control panel, we unscrew the hex screws holding the electronic board.
Note! In an Indesit front-loading washing machine, the control board is located in the lower corner at the rear of the machine body.
Now carefully disconnect all the wires from the board. Before doing this, you can take a photo, which will make it easier to figure out all the wires and connect them back.
We take the board and carefully inspect it, paying special attention to capacitors C17, C16, C20. If it fails, the top of the capacitor may swell.
Important! It is best to “ring” the capacitors with a multimeter, because if one of them is dry, then it will not work, although it does not look different from a working capacitor.
We remove the faulty capacitor and look at the markings on it, using it you need to find a similar one. You can buy a new one, or remove the working capacitor from the circuit board of an old TV, USB charger, etc. Next, we solder a working capacitor onto the board, and then assemble the washing machine.
For your information! Instead of capacitor C17 with a capacity of 680 mF, you can install a capacitor with a capacity of 1000 mF.
The entire process is captured in more detail in this video.
Rare causes of blinking indicators
However, the described malfunction is not the only one that causes all the machine’s indicators to blink. Masters note a number of other reasons. Despite the fact that they occur less frequently, they should not be excluded.
- The water has drained out.
- The heating element for heating the water or the heating element for drying is broken.
- The electric motor has failed.
- Damage to the pump (drain pump).
- The command apparatus (KSMA) is out of order.
The heating elements of a washing machine wear out over time and fail. Their failure can stop the normal operation of the washing machine and cause the indicators on the control panel to blink. To establish this reason, you need to check with a multimeter whether the heating element is working, and if it malfunctions, replace it. A detailed description of this work is presented in the article on how to check the heating element of a washing machine.
An electric motor does not fail often; its breakdown may be associated with worn brushes, which can be replaced to restore its functionality. A more common problem is that the drain pump is broken or clogged. Very often, hair and fur get wrapped around the pump impeller, causing it to not work. In this case, it is enough to clean it of debris. If a more serious breakdown occurs, you will have to replace the pump with a new one.
As for the breakdown of the mechanical command device, this malfunction is very rare, since this part of the machine is one of the most reliable, but not eternal. Usually the contacts in the command device burn out. To fix the problem, you need to clean them well and reconnect them. The unit itself is located under the control panel, which is held in place by one or two bolts.
In addition, the gear may break in the KSMA. And then troubleshooting will depend on the model of the washing machine, because in some “washing machines” you will have to completely change the KSMA, in some there is the possibility of repair.
So, flashing lights on an Indesit washing machine are not a reason to say goodbye to the unit forever and look for a new replacement. After all, the reason for the light indication may be simple and does not require large financial investments. Therefore, before you panic and think that the machine is broken, carry out diagnostics , we hope our article will help you do this.

Hello, yesterday the Indesit washing machine started flashing all the lights... the fault was with the capacitors. During disassembly, it turned out that this was due to new brushes in the engine. The brushes were rectangular. When grinding them, graphite dust appeared, which got into the control unit and shorted the board tracks. After removing the dust, the machine started working normally. Maybe this advice will help someone.

Designations on typewriters: WISL, WIUL, WIDL, WIL, WITP
These washing machines signal breakdowns in the system by indicating special function buttons and a “Spin” light. To help you determine the malfunction, you should focus on the serial numbers of the buttons when recalculating them from left to right, and not on the names of the functions. Since the latter may differ due to changes in the control panel on the listed machine models.
Any error code will be accompanied by constant rapid flashing of the “Lock” indicator, which is responsible for blocking the hatch door.
So, in the list we will indicate exclusively the numbers of indicators that flash during a particular malfunction:
- F01 (F1) – 4;
- F02 (F2) – 3;
- F03 (F3) – 3 and 4;
- F04 (F4) – 2;
- F05 (F5) – 2 and 4;
- F06 (F6) – 2 and 3;
- F07 (F7) – 2, 3, 4;
- F08 (F8) – 1;
- F09 (F9) – 1 and 4;
- F10 – 1 and 3;
- F11 – 1, 3 and 4;
- F12 – 1 and 2;
- F13 – 1, 2 and 4;
- F14 – 1, 2 and 3;
- F15 – 1, 2, 3 and 4;
- F16 – the indicator Cycle 4 (“Spin”) blinks;
- F17 – lamp 4 and cycle indicator;
- F18 – button number 3 plus spin indication.
The Indesit washing machine without a display clearly informs the user about a breakdown that has occurred. A clear display will unmistakably indicate any malfunctions that have occurred in the system.
The lock is flashing: what to do?
The types of washing machine breakdowns don’t end there. If the lock indicator on the Indesit washing machine is blinking, there may be several possible reasons.
The lock indicator may blink, but the machine still does not start washing. Moreover, if you disconnect the equipment from the network and turn it on again, the problem may not be solved. It also happens that the light is on, the device is erased, but the programs crash.
We determine codes for: WIU, WIN, WISN, WIUN
As for these models, the error will also be indicated by the indicators of the additional function buttons and the hatch locking device. In case of any malfunction, the lock indication will quickly flash red. Here is a complete list of failure symbols programmed in the intellect and the corresponding flashing indicator numbers:
- F01 (F1) – 1;
- F02 (F2) – 2;
- F03 (F3) – 1 and 2;
- F04 (F4) – 3;
- F05 (F5) – 1 and 3;
- F06 (F6) – 2 and 3;
- F07 (F7) – 1, 2, 3;
- F08 (F8) – 4;
- F09 (F9) – 1 and 4;
- F10 – 2 and 4;
- F11 – 1, 2 and 4;
- F12 – 3 and 4;
- F13 – 1, 3 and 4;
- F14 –2, 3, 4;
- F15 – 1, 2, 3 and 4;
- F16 – indicator 5 flashes;
- F17 – 1 and 5;
- F18 – 2.5.
So, by calculating the combination of flashing lights, it is easy to determine the scope of the upcoming repair work. Once you find out the source of the problem, you can find a solution to the problem and return the washing machine to its previous performance.
Codes on older models: W, WS, WT, WI
If your Indesit washing machine was purchased many years ago, then there are probably only two indicators on its control panel: on/off. unit and hatch door lock.
Such models notify the user of an error by rotating the wash program switch knob in a circle and simultaneously flickering the power button lamp.
The on/off indicator blinks in a cycle with a clear frequency, approximately every 3-5 seconds. The number of flickers of the machine power indication in one series corresponds to the fault code number. For example, a single flashing of a lamp on/off. indicates error F01 (F1), blinking 8 times in a row indicates a breakdown of F08 (F8), lighting with a frequency of 18 blinks indicates code F18. In addition, the “Lock” lamp will also light up.
However, it happens that the Indesit washing machine does not identify the error code. It happens that the control panel simply goes out, or, on the contrary, lights up with all the indicators in a row, which does not correspond to any indication of a breakdown. Based on practice, a completely disconnected panel indicates problems with the washing machine’s power supply, and massively and chaotically blinking indicators indicate a defect in the pulse source of the machine’s control module.
Description of errors
After you find out what fault code the washing machine indicates, it’s time to figure out the interpretation of the designation.
Having an idea of the essence of the breakdown, the user will be able to return the machine to functionality.
Brief description of the error indicators detected by flickering:
- F01 indicates that the machine's electric motor is damaged.
- F02 signals abnormal engine operation.
- F03 indicates damage to the thermostat.
- F04 reports a malfunction of the pressure switch (in other words, the water level sensor).
- F05 informs about damage to the pump.
- F06 tells about a button (command) error.
- F07 indicates that the pressure switch does not function after water has been drawn.
- F08 confirms the failure of the heating element.
- F09 notifies that a control module memory error has occurred.
- F10 indicates an insufficient rate of water entering the tank.
- F11 There is a defect in the drain pump circuit.
- F12 signals a breakdown in communication between the control panel lights and the main module.
- F13 indicates a failure of the drying temperature sensor.
- F14 indicates that the dryer heater has failed.
- F15 The drying heating element relay is damaged.
- F16 indicates that the washing machine drum is blocked (this code is typical only for vertical washing machines).
- F17 informs about a malfunction of the hatch door locking device.
- F18 indicates a violation in the electronic board processor.
- H20 notifies of any problems when filling the tank with water.
Having found out what exactly is broken in the machine’s system, you can begin repairs. It is permissible to fix certain breakdowns with your own hands, for example, a non-professional can replace the heating element, pressure switch, thermostat, UBL, drain pump and other elements. However, if the main control unit fails, it is better to entrust the work to professionals. Repairing electronics is difficult if you've never handled them before.

Why are all the lights blinking?
An automatic washing machine is a complex electromechanical device. Washing in it is carried out by circulating water with detergent and mixing the contents of the drum. Monitoring and control of operating modes is carried out by several sensors and an electronic unit, which, if it deviates from acceptable parameters, turns off the device. But not every emergency stop means a breakdown. Let's look at the main reasons why the lights flash in the Indesit washing machine and the washing does not take place.
The electronic board is broken
One of the reasons why the washing machine stops is a breakdown of the electronics. There are many parts in the control unit that can burn out or work incorrectly. This leads to the cessation of transmission of electrical impulses and failure of the automation. To repair such a unit, you must have certain knowledge.
Causes of electronic board malfunctions:
- poor quality parts;
- damage to tracks transmitting electrical signals;
- moisture ingress;
- voltage fluctuations;
- violation of the quality of contacts;
- disconnection from the electrical network during washing.
Self drain is broken
In this case, the machine drains water slowly or does it constantly. If the user has already installed the program, the electronics will turn it off and display a fault code or all indicators will start blinking.
Main causes of malfunction:
- the flexible drain hose is kinked;
- the outlet strainer is clogged with dirt;
- drain valve malfunction;
- breakdown of the drain pump;
- program failure.
Incorrect installation
The washing machine is connected by hoses to the water supply and sewerage system. Incorrect connection of them may cause spontaneous removal of water or inflow. The instructions for each device indicate the permissible parameters for the location of these elements.
It is necessary to pay attention to the horizontal installation of the machine. Neglect of this requirement leads to increased noise during operation and premature failure.
Overload
Each washing machine is designed for a certain amount of laundry. Underload or overload negatively affects the functioning of the device. Modern devices equipped with imbalance sensors react to incorrect loading by stopping, and an error code is displayed.
In machines without such protection, overload will not lead to the cessation of washing, but increased noise, vibration, and increased wear of support bearings and shock absorbers will occur.
Pump problems
The self-diagnosis system signals if there are problems with the drain pump: the program is reset and an error code is displayed. You can guess about the breakdown if you listen to the operation of the pump. If it makes a lot of noise or there is no sound, then repair is required.
Simple faults can be easily corrected by a user familiar with the tools. The pump may be clogged; to clean it, you will have to remove it and inspect it. If there is no blockage, and power is supplied to the contacts, replacement is required.
The heating element has failed
To improve the quality of washing, the water is heated. A tubular electric heater (TEH) is responsible for this. This element may also fail. A burnout or insulation failure is detected by a diagnostic system, which turns on the indicators to flash.
The most dangerous malfunction is an insulator breakdown, as there is a danger of electric shock to people.
Checking the heating element is simple - you just need to get to it and measure the resistance by disconnecting the wires. If the device shows zero, there is a short circuit inside; an infinitely large value means a break. An insulation breakdown is determined by checking the conductivity between the body and the heater contacts.
The engine broke down
Without an engine, no washing in an automatic washing machine is possible. If a malfunction occurs, the diagnostic system will notify you of this.
Complex repairs of an electric motor are only possible in a service workshop.
Trained users can independently check the reliability of the connection, the condition of the brushes, or replace the entire motor. In order not to get confused during assembly, take photographs of each stage of dismantling, then the reverse process will be easier.
