Zanussi's labeling is quite complicated. Some models are marked as ZWSE 7100 VS. Others - ZWI 71201 WA. The first type is easy to decipher and has a certain algorithm. How to read the second type of marking remains a mystery. In the ZWSE 7100 VS type marking, the first character always indicates the company - Zanussi. The second is the type of equipment: Washer. In third place is the loading type: S – horizontal, Q and Y – vertical. This place may also contain the letter I, which reflects the built-in type. This is followed by the maximum loading weight: H – 7, G – 6, E – 5, O – 4. The fifth character usually contains a number and means a series. The higher the value, the more functionality the machine has. The 6th and 7th characters are the spin speed multiplied by 10. That is, if it is 12, then the machine can spin at a speed of 1200 rpm. The last 3 characters can indicate the design, body and door color. In general, this marking is also a little outdated, since some cars still fall out of the general logic of the algorithm. The pace of production is rapidly increasing, and by 1930, when the new factory of Antonio Zanussi was opened, the production volume of cookstoves was twice the volume of 1922.

The troubled times of the 20s and 30s of the last century in Europe ruined more than one brilliant initiative. However, the Italian entrepreneur and engineer Zanussi’s bet on simplicity, quality and accessibility paid off; his business was not lost among hundreds of ideas in the seething whirlpool of troubled times. And after the Second World War, the sons Antonio, Lino and Guido Zanussi, who inherited their father’s business, added only one small twist to the original concept of the company’s development, which glorified their family and made the Zanussi brand the standard of good household appliances all over the world. The new concept of the company’s development, which, by the way, remains relevant in the 21st century, can be described in just two words, one slogan: “Design and Innovation.”

After the main direction of the company's development was outlined, the rapid development of the business began, which was founded as a family business. In just a few years, Zanussi production has turned into a high-tech industrial enterprise, producing not only cookers, but also almost all the technical kitchen equipment that a modern housewife might need.

We can say that the Zanussi brand created a market for “smart” and reliable household appliances in Western Europe that had never existed there before - or, at least, took an active part in its creation. Already in 1951, the Zanussi company launched production of gas, electric and combined household stoves. The breakthrough was achieved with the release of the REX 401 gas stove, which immediately gained popularity throughout Western Europe and became not just a quality standard for household appliances, but also a legend in the production of home appliances.

However, the Zanussi brothers did not limit themselves to producing only household stoves. The motto “Design and Innovation” provides comprehensive support for the housewife, providing her with all the necessary equipment from one manufacturer. Therefore, in 1954, the company released the first refrigerator adapted to work in the hot Italian climate. And the Tropic System technology, by which this unit was manufactured, determined the development of the European refrigerator market for a whole decade.

In 1958, following the chosen development policy, the Zanussi Technical and Design Center was created within the company. In the same year, the production of washing machines began under the Zanussi brand. And even with the very first washing machine, the design, functionality, and reliability were thought out to the smallest detail. This wasn't just another fancy new washing machine, it was a washing machine designed to sit in the home. Its design, economically related to living space, became the prototype of embedded equipment systems. Before entering the household appliances market with its washing machines, the company’s new Technical and Design Center analyzed the shortcomings of the models available on the market at that time, taking into account the wishes and complaints of customers about existing equipment. The experience of predecessors, both positive and negative, was studied. The functionality of the new washing machines was also ensured by an ergonomic design (although the word “Ergonomic” itself did not exist at that time, Zanussi designers intuitively anticipated the appearance of this concept).

A year later, Zanussi released the first two-chamber refrigerator. It was a large automatic unit with various temperature settings and a defrosting system. In the same year, 1959, an improved model of a washing machine entered the market. Initially, the second generation Zanussi washing machine was developed for the German market, but it has gained popularity throughout Europe. It was a front-loading machine with five wash cycles and multiple safety systems.

At the same time, the company’s marketers identified those types of refrigerators, those areas that would be in demand in the next half century. These are standard small-sized refrigerators with a freezer - for everyday use by the whole family or for use in the country. This is a refrigerator-pantry, without a freezer, for storing chilled food products. This is a vertical freezer - for freezing and long-term storage of fresh food. These are combined refrigerators capable of both cooling and freezing food, and usually run on two compressors. Finally, these are multi-compartment refrigerators, with three or more chambers for different functional purposes.

However, the company's management understood that in order for a product to sell well, quality, design and reliability alone were not enough. Therefore, in 1960, Zanussi organized a massive advertising media campaign. In particular, a series of commercials with famous French film actors were shot for French and Italian television. And this massive advertising justified itself: just two years later, in 1962, Zanussi products were exported to 72 countries around the world, and the company occupied a strong place in the world market.

The company's marketers already then, in the mid-1960s, foresaw the success of built-in household appliances. Convenience, compactness, standardization of sizes - these are the parameters that will allow any home owner to easily imagine what the kitchen will look like and easily plan what should go where, taking into account the individual needs of each family. It is worth noting that modern built-in or hanging refrigerators from Zanussi successfully solve the issue of space planning even in the smallest kitchens.

In 1965, universal dishwashers began to be produced under the Zanussi brand. And in 1970, the company released the world's first set of built-in household appliances. The market segment in which Zanussi became the founders and pioneers is now considered by experts as one of the most promising and rapidly developing.

From the very beginning of the production of sets of built-in household appliances, the company adheres to a clear ideology: you cannot impose your idea of ​​​​the kitchen on a person. Therefore, among the many options for built-in household appliance sets offered by Zanussi, you can find those that are preferred by people who believe that built-in household kitchen appliances should be inconspicuous, its functionality should be hidden from view, and the sound of the units should be inaudible to the ear. However, the difficult economic situation at the turn of the 70-80s did not have the best effect on the Zanussi company. The problems were aggravated by the tragic death of the company's head, Lino Zanussi, and his closest associates and assistants in a plane crash. And in 1984, a controlling stake in the company was acquired by the Swedish concern AB Electrolux. After this, Zanussi found a second wind. Both companies benefited from the merger of brands - but first of all, of course, the consumer, the European buyer of household appliances, benefited.

It was the developers of Zanussi refrigerators who were among the first to address the issue of environmental protection. And at the end of the 80s of the last century, refrigerators entered the market with working refrigerants that did not harm the ozone layer of the earth in case of leakage, nor accelerate the process of global warming - these are isobutane and fluoroethane refrigerants.
