  • 2021 LG TV lineup

    For 2021, LG has prepared a wide range of OLED and LCD TVs with 8K and 4K resolution.
    Many feature cutting-edge HDMI 2.1 connectors with support for Variable Refresh Rate VRR and enhanced Audio Return Channel eARC. For the first time this year, an OLED TV with a small diagonal size of 122 cm is being released. All TVs in the 2021 line are “smart” and come with the latest version 5.0 webOS platform pre-installed. In addition to access to a huge selection of programs, it provides voice control through virtual assistants Google Assistant and Alexa, as well as support for AirPlay 2 and Homekit technologies from Apple. Wireless connections are made via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules.

    LG G7 ThinQ

    The company's flagship, which in a number of parameters surpasses everything that the brand has created previously. The matrix has an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, diagonal – 6.1 inches, resolution QHD+, type – SuperLCD (a type of IPS). The screen features high brightness – 1000 nits. The model performs well in bright sunlight.

    The second feature is the smart camera. The device has 19 scenes that allow you to choose the best settings for a specific situation. The rear camera is represented by two matrices: a wide-angle 16 MP and with a larger aperture also 16 MP. The model itself understands the conditions, and if there is not enough light, it will turn on the night mode. The main camera is 8 MP with the ability to shoot Bokeh and a wide angle.

    The third key feature is improved speakers and a built-in sound processor that gives 3D sound. The company calls the new speakers Boombox, as they have high volume and excellent bass.

    Important! The phone is protected according to the IP68 standard, which means the device is safe in water. The device is dust-resistant and has been tested to meet military safety standards.

    Water protection

    The device has a Snapdragon 845 chip, 4/64 GB of memory. The device is equipped with NFC, has two Wi-Fi standards, and there is a separate button on the body for quick access to the Google Assistant, which can be activated from a long distance. The model has a glass case with a metal edging, there are four color options - black, platinum, blue, red. 3000 mAh battery. Price at the end of 2021 – from 40 thousand rubles.

    • high-quality sound;
    • smart camera;
    • powerful processor;
    • protection from dust and water;
    • excellent display.
    • not the largest memory reserve within the price segment;
    • small battery capacity;
    • weak front camera.

    Now the price tag of the model has become more loyal, but at the time of its release it was extremely illogical to buy it for 60 thousand rubles. The main points that prevented the device from becoming better than its competitors' flagships are listed below.

    1. Weak autonomy.
    2. The camera, although smart, is far from the best. I don’t want to talk about the front one at all, since 8 megapixels for a device costing 40 thousand rubles looks like a mockery.
    3. Objectively, with the Snapdragon 845, 4 gigabytes of RAM is more than enough, but the vast majority of devices at the same price have more RAM, and this has weight.
    4. The internal storage capacity is also not the best, this would be understandable if the device had a separate slot for a memory card, but, unfortunately, this is not the case.
    5. According to reviews, the new button for calling Google is more of a nuisance than a benefit.

    In the catalog of new products, although the model takes first place, it turned out to be controversial and will appeal more to fans and those who do not particularly look at the technical parameters . For buyers who compare different devices when choosing, this device will most likely not seem the most interesting offer.

    LG OLED 2021 models

    This year's line of LG OLED TVs has expanded.
    For the first time, two new modifications will be presented - OLED 4K with a diagonal of 122 cm and OLED 8K with a diagonal of 195 cm. We also note the disappearance of the E series, and the appearance in its place of another Gallery GX series, intended for wall mounting. And the model received an updated external casing with a soundbar. So, the premium OLED line is represented by the following models.

    ModelAvailable diagonal sizesNotes

    OLED BX 4K

    140 cm, 165 cm

    The most affordable model in the LG OLED hierarchy.

    OLED CX 4K

    122 cm, 140 cm, 165 cm, 195 cm

    The most widespread and popular LG OLED model, the “golden mean” of this premium line. A small OLED screen with a diagonal of 122 cm will be presented for the first time.

    OLED GX 4K

    140 cm, 165 cm, 195 cm

    The “picture” model with the prefix Gallery in the name is intended for wall installation. Supplied without stand.

    OLED WX 4K

    165 cm

    An ultra-thin “wallpaper TV” with hardware in a separate case, like a soundbar.

    OLED ZX 8K

    195 cm, 223 cm

    This is the second generation of OLED 8K. The 195 cm diagonal version (on the right) is presented for the first time in this format and has traditional legs, unlike the shelf of its “brother”.

    OLED RX 4K

    165 cm

    A unique rollable TV introduced back in 2021. According to some reports, the price of the new item will be a sky-high 60,000 US dollars.

    All of these models are equipped with an Alpha 9 video processor, and only the LG OLED BX runs on the less powerful Alpha 7. Most other characteristics are also the same, with rare exceptions. Among them, I would like to note support for the new HDMI 2.1 standard with variable refresh rate VRR and improved audio return channel eARC, Dolby Vision IQ technology, Filmmaker Mode screen mode and playback of HDR formats - Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.

    LG has come up with a TV with a retractable screen and a display window

    LG today announced the start of deliveries of new TVs from the current 2021 family, which were presented at CES. It includes both relatively affordable models and flagship ones, with all the latest technologies developed by the company.

    The company divides new TVs into three series, based on the type of matrix used: OLED, QNED Mini LED and NanoCell. Display diagonals range from 43 to 88 inches.

    The group of OLED TVs includes models Z1, G1, C1, B1, A1. In the G1 family of TVs, the company uses the new generation of OLED Evo matrices. The word Evo is a marketing name for the technology. Essentially, these matrices simply have higher brightness and increased detail compared to conventional OLEDs. LG positions TVs of the B1 and A1 families as junior models for “entering the world of OLED TVs.” The C1 family includes the widest selection of diagonals - from 48 to 83 inches. The manufacturer has not yet specified anything about the Z1 series.

    The LG QNED Mini LED LCD TV family on Mini LED panels is represented by models with 8K (QNED99, QNED95) and 4K (QNED90, QNED85) resolution. A feature of TV data matrices is the use of several layers: LED backlight, quantum dots and the LCD matrix itself. Thanks to this layout, QNED TVs have a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The refresh rate reaches 120 Hz.

    The company has not forgotten about NanoCell TVs, which are also available with 8K and 4K matrices. In the case of NanoCell 8K TVs, there are only two models: NANO99 and NANO95. But with 4K everything is more interesting, here there are five options available for purchase: NANO90, NANO85, NANO80, NANO77, NANO75. The new NanoCell series TVs are available in sizes ranging from 64.5 to 85.5 inches.

    All TVs have support for HDMI 2.1, which supports image output in resolutions up to 8K and with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz from external sources. As noted in the press release, all of the above-mentioned TVs support Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Atmos and HDR10 PRO.

    The company also took care of gamers and fans of watching sports competitions. Special artificial intelligence “LG AI Picture Pro”, built into the operating system of smart TVs, analyzes objects in the image and improves their quality in a special way to ensure better immersion. Special algorithms are capable of converting two-channel audio into 5.1 sound. All this became possible thanks to the use of the powerful fourth generation LG Alpha 9 processor.

    When and at what price the TVs will go on sale is currently unknown.

    LG NanoCell 2021 models

    The NanoCell LCD TV line is available in 4K and 8K resolution models. The most expensive ones feature full-array local dimming. LG says this feature, which provides improved contrast and depth of black tones, has been improved for 2021 models.

    ModelAvailable diagonal sizesNotes

    NANO79 4K

    127 cm

    This is the only NANO model that does not have local dimming. Otherwise it is similar to NANO80.

    NANO80 4K

    124 cm, 140 cm, 165 cm

    This marketing name hides two models - NANO806 and SM8050 - with minor differences. The first offers a number of image enhancement functions (Advanced Color Enhancer, True Color Accuracy, Local Contrast), support for the AV1 codec, AI Sound and Filmmaker mode. In turn, the second is distinguished by the “4K Active HDR” function and DTS Virtual:X virtual surround sound.

    NANO81 4K

    124 cm, 140 cm, 165 cm

    Model NANO81 is similar to NANO806, but has a different stand design.

    NANO86 4K

    124 cm, 140 cm, 165 cm

    Starting with this model, the NANO series receives the third generation Alpha 7 processor and HDMI 2.1 connectors with support for VRR and eARC technologies, as well as Motion Pro technology for improved transmission of dynamic scenes.

    NANO90 4K

    140 cm, 165 cm, 190 cm, 218 cm

    While previous models were built around edge lighting, the NANO90 offers direct backlighting with full array local dimming.

    NANO91 4K

    140 cm, 165 cm

    The NANO91 model differs from the NANO90 in its stand design. In addition, the NANO90 modifications with a diagonal of 190 cm and 218 cm have a more powerful audio system.

    NANO95 8K

    140 cm, 165 cm

    The NANO95 opens a series of three LG LCD 8K models with direct backlight and full-array local dimming, which have some differences in image processing functions and audio system. All three models run on the most powerful third-generation LG Alpha 9 video processor.

    NANO97 8K

    165 cm, 190 cm

    This model differs from the previous one in the presence of a version with a larger diagonal of 190 cm instead of a small size of 140 cm. The NANO97 screen has a refresh rate of 100 Hz, unlike 50 Hz for the NANO95.

    NANO99 8K

    165 cm, 190 cm

    NANO99 features a sleek design, a 60W 4.2 audio system (4 tweeters + 2 subwoofers) and advanced Full Array Dimming Pro.

    The latest smartphone

    If LG management decides to get rid of the smartphone business, then the company's last mobile phone, according to The Verge employees, could be another interesting gadget, codenamed Rollable. LG showed it off at CES 2021 in early January 2021, and its distinctive feature is a screen that can literally stretch to increase in size.

    LG Rollable prototype

    Having shown its new product, LG did not specify when exactly it plans to launch it on the market or how much it will cost. The Rollable's specifications are also classified, but, like the Wing, it could become part of LG's new Explorer Project line. By the way, Wing, despite its original design, is not a flagship, since it is built on a mid-level processor, and the same can happen to Rollable.

    LG's new flagship will arrive in early 2021

    Author: Sergey Kuznetsov Share

    With the exception of the LG V60 ThinQ, all of LG's 2021 smartphones could be considered less premium even if they had a premium price tag. Both the LG Velvet and the eccentric LG Wing, despite their beautiful designs and quirky features, are technically mid-range when it comes to specs. There may be questions about the company's ability to continue to produce high-end devices. The good news is that LG is actually rumored to be planning to launch the phone in the first quarter of 2021. The bad news is that those same rumors don't paint an encouraging picture for the rest of LG's phones.

    LG releases several phones every year, most of which barely attract people's attention. LG hasn't launched any new premium flagship since the beginning of this year, ending its old practice of releasing two flagships a year with the withdrawal of G series phones. This leaves the V series as the company's only flagship, although there may have been doubts whether it could save this line.

    According to The Elec, LG will indeed launch a new flagship in the first quarter of 2021. Codenamed Rainbow, it will supposedly follow in the footsteps of the LG V60 and will most likely be powered by a Snapdragon 875. What other features it will have, however, the news site remains silent.

    What will be more interesting is LG's next Project Explorer phone, codenamed Project B. In keeping with the unconventional Project Wing and its rotating second screen, Project B is believed to be one of, if not the first mobile phone on the market to arrive around March. Next year. LG already has slide-out TVs, so it's not that big of a deal.

    Unfortunately, the site also claims that most other LG phones will be ODMed. This even includes the next LG Velvet, which is part of LG's new series of all-in-one smartphones. This largely suggests that the company is gradually winding down its smartphone operations to focus on an extremely limited number of models that it will produce in-house. Of course, only time will tell if this will improve its sales performance in 2021.
