Obstacle - a panel made of laminated plywood with dimensions of 0.1 × 1.0 m is placed vertically at a distance of 1.0; 0.5 and 0.3 m from the sensors and compare these values with the readings of the parking sensors. First, at an air temperature of 21 ºС. It turned out that the SHO-ME Y-2612Р does not show a distance of less than 0.4 m at all. Maybe this is logical: there is no point in snuggling! The rest coped with the task quite well - with an error of 5–8 cm. At a temperature of -4 ºС, the measurement accuracy remained practically unchanged. Not a bad result.
Test two. "Vigilance".
We mask the target with water mist from a spray bottle. A water cloud hangs in front of the sensor, and the target is gradually brought closer to it. It is important to install the equipment correctly according to the diagram, because if the sensors are placed incorrectly, the radar may show erroneous values. Beginner car enthusiasts are advised to buy the most modern and functional device equipped with a camera.
Optimal performance of a modern parking radar
To be a good assistant to its owner, an optimal parking sensor must have:
- Extensive range. An important indicator of effectiveness is the range of the sensors. The optimal distance is at least 2 meters.
- High reaction speed. The best parking sensors should quickly warn the owner about the appearance of danger. The best result is considered to be the time of 0.1 seconds from detecting an obstacle by sensors to sending a signal. However, only a few devices can boast such speed.
- Weather protection. To make the device last longer, you should choose a model covered with a layer that protects from dust and dirt. Most radars of foreign brands have a self-diagnosis function: they themselves warn the driver that some problems have arisen in their operation and need to be corrected.
- Nice design. The device should fit organically into the interior of the car, and the detectors should not spoil the appearance of the car.
Operating principle and types of device
There are three types of parking radars: front, rear and combined. They all have pros and cons, so every car owner must choose the best type for himself.
- Rear. Installed on the rear bumper, they are automatically activated when shifting into reverse gear. Identify any obstacle (tree, curb, another car) when reversing. The most popular option, since sometimes it is impossible to park backwards using the mirrors.

Camera and display
More modern and expensive models of parking sensors are equipped with a rear view camera. This makes parking very easy, especially for beginners. The signal from the camera is sent either to a separate LCD display installed in the cabin, or directly to the rear view mirror.
The latter option is very convenient: it does not interfere with the aesthetics of the interior and does not distract the driver while driving. A special mirror is installed to replace the base one; it is conventionally divided into 2 parts - one half serves as a monitor, the second as a regular mirror. The image from the camera is broadcast only when reverse gear is engaged; the rest of the time the mirror performs its normal function. A diagram with data is also superimposed on the picture.

The display, where basic information regarding the location of obstacles will be displayed, is made in the form of a multi-segment linear scale, in the central part of which you can find a digital indicator. The sensitivity of all available sensors is very high. According to manufacturers, obstacles are detected at a distance of 0.1 to 2.5 meters. In total, there are three modifications of this product on the market, which differ from each other in the appearance of the display, as well as the overall dimensions of the sensors.
