Being an improved modification of the H4 form factor, the H7 lamp has essentially the same parameters as its predecessor. It is used in headlights with split optics and is installed mainly in the low beam unit. Based on this, manufacturers try to limit the power, but there are models with a higher threshold, although experts do not recommend using them, as they can cause an error in the computer and create an excessive load on the power source.
The connecting part, base and distance from the top to the coupling are standard, that is, the lamp can be used on almost any car with the appropriate optics configuration. As for LEDs, they have a number of advantages compared to incandescent lamps:
- durability;
- reliability;
- weather resistance;
- instant access to operating power;
- possibility of choosing any temperature of the light flux.
Among the disadvantages, we highlight the need to use an additional chip that “deceives” the car’s system, but in all models it is already installed in the lamp, so there will be no problems with installation. Also, compared to the 4th generation, H7 lamps have an increased service life. Even the heating elements last twice as long, not to mention the LEDs.

- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 2,500 rub.
- Country: Germany (manufactured in China)
- Power (W): 16
- Voltage (V): 12/24
- Color temperature (K): 6500
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 3000
- Service life: 40,000 hours
Many manufacturers love to boast of their German origin. This is explained by the persistent stereotype in the minds of buyers that if a product is produced in Germany, then it will definitely be of high quality and reliable. The brand simply shouts about it, placing a lot of relevant inscriptions on the packaging. If you dig deeper, it turns out that the product is completely Chinese. This does not detract from its advantages, but the fact remains. As for the characteristics, they are mediocre. This H7 lamp does not show anything outstanding. Yes, it can provide both low and high beam, but this is no longer new or original.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Sophisticated copy protection system
- Mediocre characteristics
- Not the highest working resource
Consumption metering
I was surprised that the operating voltage for these lamps is 12V, because all analogues can operate up to 30 or 32V. I looked at this model of lamps in other stores and everywhere they said 12V. The seller told me that the lamp can operate in the range up to 30V, but this is not advisable. The lamp is designed to work with a 12-volt on-board network. Therefore, I will measure power consumption in the range from 5 to 16V. The measurements were taken after the current consumed by the lamp stabilized, this happened in about 15 minutes. Consumption in the low beam was 17.5 W, at a voltage of 14 V, and in the high beam, 22.82 W at the same voltage. Consumption at other voltage levels can be found in the following table and graph.
Now let’s measure the heating of the lamp when operating in low and high beam mode. Heating was carried out at a voltage of 14.2V for one hour. The low beam LED heated up to 94.9 °C, and the temperature of the driver's hottest point was 62 °C.
The lamp reaches a steady temperature in about 15 minutes. The heating process of the lamp is shown in the following graph and corresponding table.
In high beam mode, the low beam LED and the high beam LED are turned on simultaneously. Apparently the brightness of the LEDs in this mode of operation is slightly limited, due to which it is possible to achieve their uniform heating. In this mode, the low beam LED heats up to 93.6 °C, and the high beam LED heats up to 94.7 °C. Since the driver now has to power two LEDs, its temperature increases slightly, namely to 73°C. During installation, it is advisable to attach such a driver to something metal for better cooling.
I also provide a graph and table of the heating process.
Top 9. Masuma LED H7

30 reviews from resources were taken into account: Yandex.Market, Ozone, Wildberries
- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 2,000 rub.
- Country: Japan
- Power (W): 25
- Voltage (V): 12/24
- Color temperature (K): 6000
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 4000
- Service life: 30,000 hours
The Masuma brand cannot be called the most popular. In our country, it is generally unknown to many, although it was Masuma that was the first to develop a security chip designed to deceive the system and was one of the first to launch the production of full-fledged LED car lamps. However, it cannot be said that the product is expensive. Compared to many brands, the lamp is even cheap, although in terms of quality it is not only not inferior to them, but also wins in some ways. In general, if the company were more popular in our region, the product would rank much higher in the rating, but so far there are very few reviews about it, and experts are in no hurry to conduct tests.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Balanced characteristics
- A brand that has introduced many innovative technologies
- Low popularity in Russia and CIS countries
- Difficult to find reviews and independent tests
Is it legal to install LED low beam headlights?
To begin with, you should look into GOST R 51709-2001 and find paragraph 4.3.1 there, which states that when operating a vehicle, the number and color of external lighting devices must meet the requirements of GOST 8769. Further, in the same paragraph a list of headlights is given:
- C – headlights for incandescent lamps;
- D – for gas-discharge elements;
- H – for halogen and incandescent.
Automotive diode lamps are not mentioned. From which we can naturally conclude that a traffic police officer can safely refer to this point and bring charges against the driver. This means that if a particular letter is indicated on the headlamp, then such elements should be installed there.
Healthy! If you look at paragraph 3.4 of Chapter 3 of the “List of Faults” you will find information that the fault includes missing light diffusers, as well as lamps that do not match the type of lighting device.
The only case when the use of LED optics is legally permitted is if it was installed at the factory of the car's headlight manufacturer. Moreover, the LED “node” is not a conventional lamp with an H1, H4 or H7 base, but a matrix on a special substrate. The matrix in this case is a light source that is redistributed under the influence of reflectors and lenses.
Of course, today on the market you can find LED low beam lamps for cars in the base H1, H4 and H7, but these are products of Chinese cooperatives.
Healthy! If you go to the official websites of the best manufacturers of car lamps today: Philips, Osram, then you will notice that there are no LED elements in the list of products for headlights.
Continuing to discuss whether it is worth installing 12-volt diode lamps for cars, let’s clearly analyze the facts and figures.
Top 8. Lumen S1 H7
Rating (2020): 3.65

The best Russian brand A product exclusively made in Russia, worthy of competing with the world's leading manufacturers. The lamp has a high working life of 60 thousand hours and protection category IP66.
- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 3,100 rub.
- Country Russia
- Power (W): 25
- Voltage (V): 12
- Color temperature (K): 6000
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 3500
- Service life: 60,000 hours
The Russian company Lumen has been on the market for a long time and competes well with famous global brands. Recently, it began producing LED lamps, including the H7 format, and it turned out pretty well, especially considering that this is the company’s first experience and it has room to grow. The device operates at 25 watts of power and produces a luminous flux of 3.5 thousand lumens. The lamp can provide low and high beam, and also work as a fog lamp. The high level of protection with index 66 and the plastic case with rubber inserts deserve special attention. They dampen vibration generated by the car and extend the life of the crystal. The total working resource is 60 thousand hours.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Resource for 60 thousand hours
- Additional vibration protection
- Quite a high price for a Russian-made product
Which lamps should you not take?
It's sad, but not everything sold in stores is suitable for your car. In particular, if you buy EAGLITE or MOMO CORSE LED headlight bulbs, you risk getting into trouble in the form of insufficient luminous flux and a blurred cut-off line. But the most important thing is that the declared power of 55 W is exceeded by 10-15 units. Meanwhile, the maximum permissible value is 58 W, otherwise overloading the car's wiring and melting the connectors is the most harmless thing that can await you.
Reviews of LED lamps for cars should be kept in mind when going shopping. And, by the way, it is better to purchase them not only on the recommendation of friends, but to familiarize yourself with the required characteristics yourself. After all, everyone's car is different.

Additional protection from vibration The LED crystal is placed in its own housing, reinforced with polyurethane inserts on the inside. A rubber skirt acts as additional protection against vibration.
- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 950 rub.
- Country: China
- Power (W): 17
- Voltage (V): 12
- Color temperature (K): 4500
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 2400
- Service life: 30,000 hours
The LED lamp is a very sensitive product. It can fail due to the banal vibration that the car inevitably creates. Therefore, the best option is the one that has maximum protection, and now it is before us. The manufacturer took into account all the features of the device and placed the crystal in a special case. It is made of plastic, but protection is provided not only by the frames, but also by polyurethane gaskets that press the element and act as a bumper. The skirt of the lamp also deserves attention. The H7 format requires strict adherence to design standards. Here they did not deviate from them, but made the base rubberized, which also conceals vibrations and dampens them.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Polyurethane inserts around the crystal
- Rubberized skirt
- Low working resource
- Weak luminous flux

The best H7 halogen lamps: xenon effect
Next, in the rating of the best H7 car lamps from Expertology, we will look at a group of interesting technological solutions - halogen lamps with xenon effect. Our experts recommend four models from different brands: Mtf-Light, Osram, Philips and Hella.
Mtf-Light Palladium H7
Rating: 4.9
This group opens with a lamp of the Russian brand and South Korean production Mtf-Light Palladium H7. This is an excellent solution for individual tuning of car optics and, in this particular case, for “admirers” of xenon. Produced at Namyung Co. factories. Ltd. (South Korea).
The manufacturer himself characterizes the luminous flux from a halogen lamp as “crystal blue”. Actually, this is largely true - the color temperature of the beam is 5500K. Experts do not forget to emphasize that these halogen lamps are perfectly combined with “real” xenon lamps with a color temperature of 6000K.
The manufacturer managed to achieve high aesthetic and performance characteristics due to the special composition of the glass, multilayer interference coating and special spraying. The halogen lamps of this model reliably block ultraviolet radiation and are completely safe for plastic headlights.
The energy characteristics of this model are standard for this type of automobile lamps: power supply – 12V, power consumption – 55W. They fully comply with all relevant European standards and relevant Russian requirements. Supplied in blister packs, 2 pieces per set.
Advantages
- pleasant, even, crystal blue light;
- reliability and durability;
- safety for plastic headlights;
Flaws
- up to 15%! reduction in luminous flux compared to analogues due to spraying.
Osram Cool Blue Intense H7
Rating: 4.8
The rating continues with a halogen lamp from the famous German company Osram. Already in the nomenclature itself there is a hint of “intense”, “cold” and “blue” light. The first two positions are fine, but as for the blue tint, here the manufacturer is slightly disingenuous, since in fact the color of the beam is white - this is confirmed by numerous reviews from real customers.
Otherwise, the characteristics of the product are quite decent. The halogen lamp produces bright, high-contrast light that is pleasing to the eye and close to natural. The color temperature is 4000K, that is, the light is really “cold”, like xenon, but it still has little in common with the promised blueness.
Compared to standard halogen lamps, this model demonstrates 20% more intense brightness. It is characterized by excellent contrast of illumination of the road surface itself, markings and signs. Another plus is the special design of the lamp with a silver dome. This model is ideal for headlights with clear lenses.
The connection parameters are standard – voltage 12V, power consumption – 55W.
Advantages
- +20%! to brightness compared to standard lamps;
- optimized design;
- good contrast;
- light close to daylight;
Flaws
- not the most durable.
- no declared blueness;
Philips CrystalVision
Rating: 4.7
Next in the ranking is a very popular model of car lamps with xenon effect from Philips. They produce bright, white, even light with a subtle bluish tint. Color temperature – 4300K. Compared to standard lamps, this model adds about 30% to the brightness of head lighting. Designed to equip low and high beam headlights. Supplied in sets in blister packs of 2 pieces.
The lamp bulb is made using proprietary Philips technology - reinforced quartz glass with optical polishing and an ultraviolet filter. The cap is gray, the base is chrome-plated. The power supply is standard for this type of halogen lamps - voltage 12V, power consumption - 55W.
Expertology experts recommend halogen lamps of this model for all weather conditions. At night, visual comfort compared to standard lamps is especially noticeable due to range, brightness and contrast.
Like all other Philips products for equipping automotive optics, Philips CrystalVision have all the necessary certificates of the European standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and QSO 9000, and also comply with Russian requirements and regulations.
Advantages
- smooth, bright, rich white light;
- good contrast at night and visibility of small objects;
- one third brighter than “standard” lamps;
Flaws
- On low beam headlights, according to user reviews, the service life is noticeably reduced.
Hella Cool Blue H7
Rating: 4.6
And this group of our rating is closed by a halogen lamp from the German brand Hella with an H7 base. This is the most ordinary technological solution in this group, not remarkable for anything “fantastic”, but our experts still decided to include this model in the review due to its main advantage - its affordable price.
We recommend: Three ways to close the starter directly
This model is part of the Standard series of halogen lamps from this manufacturer. Despite all the “standard”, users are almost unanimous in their high assessment of its service life. It is mainly equipped with low and high beam headlights, and much less often with fog lights.
The halogen lamp gives a very good, even and powerful light output with a color close to daylight. But it’s precisely in terms of the xenon effect that this model is balancing on the brink. So, for those car enthusiasts who need a clearly defined xenon effect, it is better to look at another model on our list.
The energy indicators of a halogen lamp are standard for this class: the required voltage is 12V, power consumption is 55W. Supplied for sale in a minimalistic cardboard box, the set includes the lamp itself (1 pc.) and brief instructions in different languages.
Advantages
- increased service life;
- very affordable price.
Flaws
- The xenon effect is minimal.
Top 5. VIPER Ultra Bright
Rating (2020): 4.01

Unique Design LED crystals are placed in a protected aluminum tube with a vacuum for rapid temperature removal.
- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 2,950 rub.
- Country: USA (manufactured in Malaysia)
- Power (W): 50
- Voltage (V): 9-32
- Color temperature (K): 5500
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 6000
- Service life: 70,000 hours
The LED system is relatively new, and manufacturers continue to experiment to find better uses for the chip. For example, in this case it was decided to place the device in an aluminum tube, from which the air was pumped out. This increased protection, both from dust and other contaminants, and from shocks. This also significantly reduced the heating time of the crystal. It is known that this is an important problem with such models, since it is necessary to use a special chip that supplies a powerful short-term impulse. Here its task is reduced, and an additional advantage of the vacuum is instant heat removal. This significantly extends the life of the crystal.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Increased resource
- Unique design
- Maximum security
- Not suitable for all cars
Top 4. Osram LEDriving HL

Correct light distribution The lamp is made in such a way that the geometry of the light flux is distributed as correctly as possible, illuminating the road ahead, but without blinding oncoming drivers.
- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 3,500 rub.
- Country: Germany
- Power (W): 25
- Voltage (V): 12
- Color temperature (K): 6000
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 3000
- Service life: 50,000 hours
The German brand Osram does not just produce LED lamps, but tries to make a product that meets all quality and safety requirements. Even a small change in the form factor of the light bulb can completely change the luminous flux, and the manufacturer is constantly experimenting with geometry. The product can be considered one of the company's achievements. Here it is possible to achieve the most correct distribution of light, which now does not blind oncoming drivers, and at the same time reduces the number of unlit areas on the road to a minimum. The chip, which is perceived by the machine’s computer without failures or errors, deserves special attention.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Correct geometry of light flux
- Reliable chip
- Long lasting crystal
- Lots of fakes
- Weak brand protection against copying
Pros and cons of diode devices
LED lamps for cars have significantly more positive aspects than similar modifications. Users highlight the following advantages:
- the operation of diode crystals is not affected by mechanical influences;
- Light source resources reach 30,000 hours under favorable conditions of use;
- H7 LED bulbs consume electricity economically, which increases the durability of the car battery;
- the devices produce a powerful luminous flux that improves visibility of the road, but without blinding drivers of oncoming cars;
- Installation of diode devices can be carried out when replacing analogues with a different operating principle.
Despite a wide range of advantages, the product also has disadvantages, which are often revealed during operation:
- H7 diode lamps reproduce radiation in a downward direction, which reduces the distance between the boundary of the beam and the source;
- lighting devices may periodically flicker, and this negatively affects the driver’s vision; the eyes begin to get tired during long journeys;
- When buying a fake, you should take into account that the parameters declared by the manufacturer do not coincide with real indicators.

H7 LED bulb is used in split headlights. Lensed optics should be divided into high and low beam. And if there is a leak somewhere, water will inevitably get onto the electronics. Also, diodes are extremely sensitive to shaking, which means that the main argument when choosing is security. This is the main advantage of this product. The crystal is placed in a dense plastic case, which preserves the element when shaking. And the IP66 index tells us that the product is not afraid of moisture, dust, and is also resistant to temperature changes. The disadvantages include not the most powerful luminous flux, although if the lamp only produces low beam, this is enough.
Advantages and disadvantages
- Reliable protection against moisture and dust
- Anti-shake bumpers
- Small luminous flux

Best price The most inexpensive LED lamp in our rating. The price of 440 rubles per pair is almost two times lower than that of its closest competitor.
- Characteristics
- Price per pair: 440 rub.
- Country: Russia (manufactured in China)
- Power (W): 27
- Voltage (V): 12
- Color temperature (K): 4300
- Luminous Flux (Lum): 2500
- Service life: 50,000 hours
A car LED lamp in the H7 form factor is not the cheapest pleasure. Better models from well-known manufacturers can cost several thousand rubles, but in this case we are seeing the cheapest option, costing half the price of its closest competitor. At the same time, the lamp cannot be called bad, nor can it be called the best of its kind. The product is quite simple. The working life is 50 thousand hours, and the luminous flux is 2500 lumens. In principle, everything is adequate, but the low level of protection should be taken into account: if your lensed optics have leaks, you should be very careful when washing the car. But there is a one-year warranty.
Hi all. I again came across LED lamps in the H7 base, and I’ll tell you about them later. If you are too lazy to read, there is a video version at the end of the post. Lamps are produced in various types of bases H1, H3, H4, H7, H11, H8, H9 880, HB3 9005, HB4 9006.
Characteristics:
The declared brightness of the lamp is 4000 lm.
Color temperature 6000K. Power 36W - if you look at the packaging, 30W - if you look at the store page (in fact it turned out to be 30W). Supply voltage range 8-42V. Claimed resource 30,000 hours. The lamps are supplied in this packaging.
I will start my tests by checking the operation of the lamp in the declared voltage range. From the table and graph we see that the lamp reaches its nominal operating mode at 12 volts; it is from this voltage that the driver stabilizes the power consumed by the lamp at 30W. At voltages below 8 volts, the driver blocks the operation of the lamp.
I’ll also note here that when connecting the lamp, you must observe the polarity. The red wire is positive, the black wire is negative, it seems to go without saying. But for the lamps that I met earlier in this base, the polarity did not matter.
There is a rubber plug at the top of the lamp; it seems to me that its main purpose is to improve the appearance and nothing more.
For installation in a headlight, an adapter for an H7 socket is installed on the lamp; additional adapters for other types of sockets are not included in the kit. The O-ring tightly presses the adapter to the lamp and prevents it from dangling. The adapter is massive, apparently it is assumed that some of the heat will be transferred through it to the headlight reflector housing.
The lamp itself is made of 6063 aluminum (as it says on the box).
Two boards with LEDs are mounted on a massive aluminum substrate, which is part of the body, that is, all the heat is transferred directly to the surface of the lamp and the radiator, where it is dissipated. Heat dissipation is improved by a fan located under an aluminum protective casing that is tightly pressed onto the radiator.
However, as my tests have shown, the temperature of the LEDs is still quite high. I carried out the tests in a cardboard box, approximately equal in size to the internal space in the headlight. The lamp reaches temperature stabilization mode very quickly, it takes a little more than 5 minutes.
The diameter of the lamp is slightly smaller than its analogues, but due to the protruding radiator, the dimensions of the lamp will not allow it to be installed in every car or motorcycle. Difficulties during installation will be associated, at a minimum, with the difficulty of fastening the wire that holds the lamp; at most, it will simply not fit. While on a car you can modify the cover of the headlight unit if desired, on a motorcycle the lamp may simply not fit.
In addition, the fan takes in air exclusively through the slots in the back cover. If, when installing the lamp, the headlight unit cover fits tightly to the back wall of the lamp, the temperature at the lamp LEDs will increase significantly.
Now let's move on to the main tests
On the page with the description of the lamp there are many photographs where these lamps were installed in low beam headlights.
Therefore, I will test the lamps on the low-beam headlights and compare them with LEDO Standard halogen lamps. To compare the brightness of the lamp with a standard halogen lamp, I used a lux meter. Having placed the sensor at a distance of one meter from the headlight glass, I measured the illumination created by the lamp. The values obtained as a result of measurements can be considered dimensionless. They will only help us estimate how many times brighter an LED lamp is than a standard halogen lamp. LED lamp 3790 Lux, Halogen lamp 1625 Lux
It turned out that the LED lamp is 2.3 times brighter than an incandescent lamp.
Please note the complete absence of light-shadow boundaries. Photos were taken at the following camera settings: ISO 3200, f4.5, 1/160s. I forgot to switch the white balance to manual mode, so the halogen lamp turned out a little colder.
You can see what the lamps look like in action in the video below. If you have read everything written here, then the video you are interested in will start at 2:10. Just in case, I’ll attach a screenshot if you can’t see a dynamic picture.
And finally, one more comparison of lamp brightnesses.
Promised video version:
conclusions
The lamp interested me because the LED was slightly recessed compared to other similar lamps from the budget price range.
I was wondering how the light-shadow boundary would change with this arrangement of the diode. In fact, she hasn't changed at all. The lamps are positioned as lamps for fog lights, perhaps these lamps will be suitable for fog lights, but these lamps cannot be installed in low beam headlights under any circumstances, the only exception being if your headlights are designed to use LED lamps of this type.
I decided to add a link to the lamps: Link I think I told you everything. Thanks for your interest in the post.
